About The Role
As DBG Health and Arrotex continue a significant transformation, the Head of Government and Public Affairs will play a critical leadership role in shaping how we engage with government, policymakers, and the broader healthcare ecosystem across Australia and New Zealand. The role is responsible for leading government relations, policy advocacy, and public affairs strategy to support sustainable healthcare access, reimbursement outcomes, and a stable operating environment for medicines.
Lead government and public affairs strategy across ANZ, building trusted engagement with ministers, policymakers, regulators, and industry stakeholders. Partner cross-functionally with Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs, Commercial, Market Access, and Corporate Affairs to align policy engagement and industry priorities.
This is a high-impact leadership opportunity suited to an experienced public affairs leader who brings strong policy insight, stakeholder engagement capability, and the ability to influence across a complex and evolving healthcare environment and is motivated to support reimbursement outcomes that improve patient access to innovative medicines while contributing to our commitment to being Defined by Good.
Role and Responsibilities
- Lead DBG Health and Arrotex’s engagement with government, ministers, departments, regulators, and political stakeholders across Australia and New Zealand.
- Shape and execute advocacy strategies that support policy, reimbursement, and regulatory outcomes aligned to business priorities.
- Monitor legislative and policy developments, providing proactive intelligence and strategic advice to senior leaders.
- Represent the organisation in industry forums, consultations, and inquiries, influencing healthcare reform and access pathways.
- Oversee public affairs strategy to strengthen corporate reputation and promote the organisation’s role in improving patient access to medicines.
- Lead media relations, press responses, and external communications, ensuring consistent and aligned messaging.
- Manage issues and crisis communication to protect and enhance organisational credibility.
- Provide expert analysis on evolving health policy, PBS and PHARMAC frameworks, and broader political trends.
- Develop policy positions, briefing materials, and thought leadership content that support enterprise advocacy priorities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with industry associations, NGOs, patient advocacy groups, and other external stakeholders.
Skills and Experience - Deep expertise in government relations and public policy, with strong understanding of Australian and New Zealand legislative processes, healthcare systems, and reimbursement frameworks (PBS, PHARMAC).
- Proven advocacy capability, with a track record of shaping policy outcomes, influencing government decision‑makers, and leading high‑impact engagement strategies in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, or similarly regulated sectors.
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, able to craft compelling policy narratives, prepare high‑quality briefings, and confidently represent the organisation in high‑stakes discussions.
- Strong public affairs and reputation management experience, including media relations, issues management, and delivering aligned, strategic external communications.
- Advanced policy analysis skills, with the ability to interpret complex legislation, anticipate shifts in the political environment, and provide strategic advice to senior executives.
- Ability to manage complex stakeholder landscapes, balancing the interests of government, industry bodies, NGOs, patient groups, and media.
- Minimum 10+ years’ experience in government affairs, public affairs, or policy roles, ideally within pharmaceuticals, healthcare, life sciences, or a highly regulated industry.
