About The Role:
As a Data Engineer, you'll architect, build, and optimise scalable data pipelines and cloud-based platforms that enable fast, secure, and reliable access to trusted data. You’ll own the full data lifecycle, from ingestion and transformation to modelling, delivery and leveraging modern data lakes and distributed processing frameworks to meet evolving business needs.
Partnering with engineers, architects, and business stakeholders, you’ll champion data quality, governance, and automation while developing reusable assets and secure access frameworks. Above all, you’ll empower analysts, data scientists, and business users with high-quality, self-service data capabilities that unlock insight, innovation, and strategic decision-making.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and enhance complex, high-performance ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Databricks, and Azure SQL/Data Lake.
- Develop dimensional, relational, and data-lakehouse models supporting analytical and operational use cases.
- Lead performance optimisation initiatives, including query tuning, distributed compute efficiency, and storage optimisation.
- Implement and mature CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, monitoring, data observability, and infrastructure-as-code using Azure DevOps.
- Build reusable data engineering assets, frameworks, and automation patterns to drive engineering efficiency and consistency.
- Apply and uplift data governance, lineage, metadata management, and quality frameworks, ensuring compliant, auditable, and trusted data environments.
- Maintain critical platform documentation, runbooks, operational procedures, and metadata repositories.
- Partner with architects, product managers, analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, value-driven data solutions.
- Translate complex business and analytical requirements into technical designs and engineering roadmaps.
Skills & Experience: - Minimum 3–6 years hands-on data engineering experience designing, building, and optimising enterprise data platforms.
- Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Advanced proficiency across: Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, Synapse, SQL Server & optimisation, data modelling, ETL/ELT pipeline development
- Strong Python experience for data transformation and workflow automation.
- Demonstrated capability implementing CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, observability, and production support practices.
- Proven experience delivering distributed data processing, streaming, and/or lakehouse patterns (highly regarded).
- Experience with enterprise-grade data governance frameworks, lineage tools, and MDM concepts.
- Ability to operate autonomously, prioritise effectively, and deliver in fast-moving, cloud-first environments.
- Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
