About the location Home to the Wilyakali / Wiljaali people, Broken Hill is a city forged out of a hill that was almost pure silver, lead and zinc. It is a mining town on the edge of the desert at the central-western edge of New South Wales which is worth visiting.
Things to do Discover amazing galleries, vast sculptures, cool cafes, palatial federation heritage and moving mining landmarks in Australia’s first heritage-listed city. You can visit the Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery, which is the oldest regional gallery in NSW, or maybe the stunning Living Desert Sculptures, wherein these 12 dramatic sandstone sculptures form a trail through the centre of the Living Desert Reserve. Also, there’s a pub on (almost) every corner in Broken Hill, so you never have to go far for a countermeal and a cold drink.
How to get thereBroken Hill is a 1-hour flight from Adelaide Airport and a 2-hour, 30-minute flight from Sydney.
