About the location
Emerald is the largest town in the Central Queensland Highlands and is an ideal central base for exploring the region. Emerald is renowned for its significant sapphire and gem fields and agricultural and cattle farming industries. Additionally, it is home to the well-known Fairbairn Dam and the Emerald Botanic Gardens, which boast picturesque scenery and provide a variety of outdoor activities.
  
Things to do
You can visit the Emerald Botanic Gardens, a beautiful 42-hectare garden right by the Nogoa River, offering serene walks and picnicking spots.
  
You can also check out the historic railway station's unique van Gogh sunflower painting. Or, take a day trip to the Sapphire Gemfields, one of the largest sapphire fields in the Southern area, where you can fossick for your own gems.
  
How to get there
Emerald Airport offers flights from and to Brisbane. The flight takes about an hour and 35 minutes.
