Help strengthen the people, systems and connections behind rural support across New Zealand.
We’re looking for an experienced National Services Lead who enjoys bringing people together, improving how things work and taking ownership of what needs to happen next.
NZ Rural Support strengthens connection and resilience across New Zealand’s farming communities, helping farmers and growers navigate challenging times and access the practical tools, people and specialist help they need. Working through 14 Regional Rural Support Trusts, the network assists with challenges including mental health and wellbeing, financial pressure, employee and employer support, animal welfare, biosecurity and adverse events.
Behind this frontline delivery is the New Zealand Rural Support Charitable Trust, which shares resources and experience across the network and provides a single point of contact for government and other national organisations.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the General Manager, you’ll work closely with Regional Coordinators, the National Council, Regional Trust Chairs and others across Rural Support.
You’ll help ensure Regional Trust teams have the frameworks, systems, training and support they need to deliver consistently and effectively in their communities. It’s a varied role bringing together people, projects, systems and delivery.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and maintaining national service frameworks, policies and procedures
- Identifying capability and training needs and coordinating an annual training programme
- Supporting the onboarding and development of Regional Coordinators
- Facilitating monthly Coordinator meetings that encourage learning and open discussion
- Ensuring information and feedback flows effectively across the network
- Attending and contributing to the monthly National Council meeting
- Coordinating national services, systems and reporting
- Working with Coordinators and the system developer to improve the CRM, data capture and reporting
- Designing and overseeing national conferences and workshops
- Supporting Rural Support’s national approach during adverse events and biosecurity incursions
About You You’ll be someone who takes ownership, works well independently and has the initiative to keep things moving.
You’ll have sound judgement and strong critical-thinking skills. When something doesn’t add up, you’ll ask the right questions, dig a little deeper and work through what needs to happen.
Just as importantly, you’ll be good with people. You’ll know how to adapt your approach to different personalities and situations, build trust and make sure different perspectives are heard.
We’re looking for:
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills
- Excellent organisation, planning and time management
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Strong attention to detail
- Facilitation experience and the confidence to encourage participation
- Experience coordinating projects and events
- Confidence using Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Teams
- Industry knowledge and established networks
- A practical, adaptable approach and willingness to find better ways of doing things
Experience in the rural, agribusiness, health or not-for-profit sectors would be an advantage, but isn't essential.
Working with Rural Support This is a permanent position offering 32–40 hours per week, working from home with a laptop and mobile phone provided. You’ll have the autonomy to manage your own day while remaining accessible and responsive during work hours by phone. There is no weekend work. Some initial travel will be required to meet key people and build relationships as you settle into the role. After that, travel will be occasional to attend Rural Support Trust functions and meetings, coordinator workshops and the annual Rural Support conference.
Why NZ Rural Support Charitable Trust? This is an opportunity to use your skills within an organisation doing genuinely meaningful work for rural New Zealand.
