What You’ll Do: We are seeking a hands-on Senior Data Engineer to join our Data & Analytics team at a leading National Grocery Chain. In this role, you will be responsible for building and scaling the behavioral and Ecommerce data platform, enabling trusted analytics and delivering AI-ready data across the enterprise.
You will design and implement scalable data pipelines, model complex behavioral datasets, and deliver high-quality data products that fuel advanced analytics, personalization, and machine learning. This is a delivery-focused role requiring deep expertise in Azure, Databricks, and Synapse along with the ability to manage enterprise-scale data engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities - Architect, build, and optimize robust ELT/ETL pipelines in Databricks, Spark, and Synapse.
- Model large-scale, complex event datasets (digital behavior, Ecommerce, marketing) to support analytics, ML, and decision-making.
- Implement data governance and discoverability using Unity Catalog and Alation, ensuring compliance, quality, and lineage.
- Reconcile pipelines against trusted datasets (Adobe Analytics, Adobe CJA) to ensure accuracy.
- Partner with data architects, analysts, scientists, and marketing teams to deliver reusable and trusted datasets.
- Enhance ingestion, orchestration, and curation through Delta Lake optimizations, Databricks Workflows, and Synapse integration.
- Develop and optimize semantic models and marts for BI/AI dashboards in Power BI.
- Actively contribute in agile delivery processes (sprint planning, backlog refinement, documentation).
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for long-term transparency and maintainability.
Required Qualifications - 5+ years in data engineering with proven delivery of cloud-based data solutions.
- Strong expertise in Databricks, Azure Synapse, Spark, and modern data architectures (Lakehouse, ELT/ETL, streaming).
- Advanced SQL optimization and data modeling experience.
- Hands-on use of Unity Catalog and metadata governance tools (e.g., Alation).
- Knowledge of behavioral analytics tools (Adobe Analytics, CJA).
- Microsoft Azure Data Engineer Associate and Databricks Data Engineer Professional certifications preferred.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills with experience in agile teams.
