Senior Software Engineer – Monitoring (Lead)
Location: Cincinnati, OH – Onsite
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer – Monitoring IV to serve as a technical andleadership lead for a new engineering team focused on application monitoring, observability,and reliability. This is a unique opportunity to establish monitoring standards and shape thedirection of enterprise-scale systems for a national bank. The role requires both hands-on
technical expertise and the ability to mentor engineers, drive cross-team collaboration, andlead the adoption of monitoring best practices across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
• Serve as the monitoring lead, establishing vision, standards, and strategy for
observability.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
• Collaborate with product, DevOps, and security teams to align monitoring initiative swith business needs.
• Design, implement, and optimize monitoring and alerting systems across hybrid environments.
• Build automation and self-healing capabilities to reduce manual interventions.
• Lead integration of monitoring solutions with CI/CD pipelines and enterprise
applications.
• Drive incident detection, triage, and root cause analysis (RCA).
• Define SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets to ensure system reliability.
• Proactively identify performance bottlenecks and recommend improvements.
Required Skills
• Proven leadership experience in mentoring and leading technical teams.
• Strong expertise in application monitoring, observability, and logging platforms (Splunk, Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, AppDynamics, or similar).
• Proficiency with Linux/Unix systems and scripting (Bash, Python).
• Strong knowledge of Java/Spring Boot applications and performance monitoring.
• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud monitoring tools (CloudWatch, X-Ray, etc.).
• Familiarity with messaging/eventing systems (Kafka, MQ).
• Strong troubleshooting skills in networking, APIs, and distributed systems.
Preferred Skills
• Financial services or highly regulated industry experience.
• Expertise in container monitoring (Kubernetes, Docker, OpenShift).
• Knowledge of infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible) for monitoring automation.
