Lead Full Stack Java Developer

Location: Onsite – Cincinnati, Ohio 

Industry: National Banking / Financial Services

About the Role: We are building a new, high-impact engineering team at a leading National Bank, and we are seeking a very senior Full Stack Java
Developer to take on a leadership role. This is an opportunity to not only design and deliver cutting-edge enterprise applications but also to shape the culture, mentor talent, and set the technical direction for a team from day one.
The ideal candidate is a proven technical leader who thrives in complex environments, can bridge business and technology, and has a track record of building high-performing teams while remaining hands-on with modern development practices.
Key Responsibilities

• Team Leadership & Mentorship
  
  • Lead, mentor, and coach a team of developers; foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
  • Guide architectural decisions, enforce engineering best practices, and ensure code quality and maintainability.
  • Partner with business leaders, architects, and product owners to align technical solutions with strategic goals.
• Full Stack Development
  
  • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade Java-based applications.
  • Build scalable and secure APIs and services using Java/Spring Boot.
  • Deliver intuitive, performant front-end solutions with modern frameworks (React, Angular, or similar).
  • Optimize solutions for performance, scalability, and maintainability.
• Technical Strategy & Delivery
  
  • Shape the technical roadmap for the new team.
  • Champion DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native solutions.
  • Drive successful delivery of projects in an Agile environment.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software development experience with a strong foundation in Java/Spring Boot and modern front-end frameworks.
• 5+ years of proven leadership experience, including leading teams, mentoring engineers, and owning delivery of large-scale projects.
• Expertise in designing and building scalable enterprise applications in highly regulated environments (finance/banking preferred).
• Strong experience with RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, SQL/NoSQL databases, and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, test automation, and DevOps practices.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence, negotiate, and align stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in banking, financial services, or other highly regulated industries.
• Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud-native application design.
• Experience scaling teams and establishing engineering culture from the ground up.
