Love turning great products into commercial wins?
NZ Panels Group is a leading New Zealand supplier of interior products. Our brands, including Prime Panels, Bestwood, Dezignatek and Mercer, are specified in kitchens, joinery and commercial fit-outs across the country, covering decorative panels, cabinetry doors, benchtops, sinks and tapware.
We’re looking for a Product Manager to take ownership of assigned product ranges and help shape what we bring to market next.
About the role
This role blends technical product knowledge with sharp commercial thinking. You’ll manage your ranges end to end, from market insight and supplier relationships through to new product launches and margin performance.
Reporting to the Group Category Manager, you’ll work closely with Sales, Specification, Marketing, Finance, Supply Chain, Operations and our Technical and Quality teams.
What you’ll do
- Manage your ranges: own positioning, specifications, lifecycle and range architecture, and recommend where to rationalise or fill gaps.
- Know the market: build deep insight into customers, channels and competitors, and turn it into clear opportunities and recommendations.
- Drive commercial performance: track revenue, price, cost, margin and inventory, explain what’s moving and why, and support pricing, budgets and forecasts.
- Deliver new products: lead initiatives through our Stage-Gate process, from scoping and business case to testing, certification and launch.
- Work with suppliers: build strong, objective supplier relationships and support sourcing, negotiation, testing and quality improvement.
- Enable the sales team: create product propositions, training content and launch briefs, and get out with customers, designers and specifiers.
- Make things happen: own your actions, make timely decisions and provide clear, decision-ready reporting.
About you
You’re analytical, commercially curious and quick to get your head around how a product is made and used. You’ll bring:
- Proven product management experience with technical B2B physical products.
- Strong technical aptitude: you can quickly understand specifications, applications, testing and certification.
- A working knowledge of product lifecycle, pricing, cost, margin and building a business case.
- Strong analytical and Excel skills, plus good project management and written communication.
- A track record of delivering new products, range changes or launches with cross-functional teams.
It’s a bonus if you have:
- Experience in building products, surfaces, flooring, doors, cabinetry, stone or a related industry.
- A commercial, marketing, business, finance, engineering or technical qualification.
- Experience with imported and manufactured products, supplier negotiation, quality or inventory management.
- Hands-on use of Stage-Gate or a similar product development process.
Most of all, you take ownership, challenge constructively and like to finish what you start. That fits our values: reliable, safe, caring, real and supportive.
What we offer - Well-known NZ brands and a product portfolio to get stuck into.
- A competitive salary package.
- Ongoing training and development within a supportive, safety-first team.
- A base at our East Tāmaki site, close to the people who make and move the product.
How to apply If this sounds like you, apply now with your CV and a short cover letter telling us about a product or launch you’re proud of.
