We’re supporting a large US engineering consultancy with the appointment of an Industrial Sector Lead to help develop and grow its UK industrial business.

The company has been established in the UK for around ten years and is now investing heavily in its next phase of growth. Its UK Power business has grown from effectively zero to around 20 people in approximately two years, and Industrial is one of the next major areas of focus.

This is a senior role for an engineer who wants to combine technical credibility with client development, team growth and broader business leadership.

There are two ways this appointment could work.

The business would be interested in speaking with an established Technical Director or senior sector leader who already has a track record of developing clients, winning work and building teams, and who could accelerate growth quickly.

Equally, they are open to a strong Associate Director who has the technical credibility, commercial awareness and ambition to step into a broader role and build the business more progressively.

The important point is that this does not need to be someone who has already done the entire job before.

The business already has live industrial clients in the UK that are being serviced by other parts of the organisation, but are not currently being actively developed through a dedicated Industrial leadership structure.

The successful individual will therefore have an existing platform from which to grow.

They will be expected to:

• Develop existing industrial clients and identify opportunities to broaden the services being provided
• Build new client relationships and introduce additional opportunities where appropriate
• Remain technically credible in front of clients
• Help identify which service lines and capabilities should be developed locally
• Recruit and build a team as the pipeline grows
• Work with established UK and US teams to access delivery capability while the local Industrial business develops

The business is prepared to invest immediately in supporting the successful individual.

Existing UK capability across Civil, Structural, MEP, Sustainability and Resilience can support delivery, while additional specialist resource can be accessed through the company’s established US Industrial operation.

As the pipeline develops, the intention is to recruit additional people around the successful individual and progressively establish a dedicated UK Industrial team.

We are not looking for someone who has worked across every part of the industrial market.

Credible engineering experience within one relevant sector is sufficient, provided it gives you the technical grounding to understand client requirements and operate confidently in front of senior stakeholders.

Relevant backgrounds could include:

• Advanced Manufacturing
• Food & Beverage
• Logistics
• Industrial Water
• Mining & Aggregates
• Oil & Gas
• Industrial Infrastructure

An established client network would be highly valuable, particularly for someone looking to accelerate the business quickly, but it is not essential for the right individual.

Ultimately, this is an opportunity for someone who wants to move beyond pure project delivery and take genuine ownership of growing a market, developing clients and building a team within a major international engineering business.
