The role
Our client has expanded significantly over the past 3 years in terms of revenue, profitability, colleague numbers and offices around the world. Their Grid Connections team has played a significant role in that development, and they are continuing to expand and grow the team to keep pace with the growth in this sector.
We’re seeking to appoint a Director of Grid Connections to lead this development and growth as a Team Director. You will be responsible for setting and executing the strategy for the Grid Connections team in line with the corporate strategy, actively doing business development and interfacing with clients to promote their services. You will also be responsible for leading and motivating the team to achieve the highest standards possible and to create a culture of cooperation and mutual support both within your team and in cooperation with other teams.
Duties and responsibilities include;
- Department management fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
- Business development and client relationship management to;
- Identify new business opportunities and areas for growth with well established existing clients
- Maintain a healthy pipeline of work for the department
- Foster continuing good relationships with our existing clients and understand their current and future needs
- Participate in industry forums and events
- Growing and developing the team, including;
- Mentoring and development of team members
- Recruitment and training to ensure the department has the resources and skills to deliver for our clients
- Giving guidance and advice in project management and technical delivery of the work.
- Strategic planning and development, including;
- Staying abreast of industry trends and developments
- Being an integral part of the team's annual strategic planning and delivery of the agreed plan.
The candidate The successful candidate will have technical expertise in power system planning and analysis and a good understanding of the GB power system. This role is suited to an experienced power systems engineer with management experience who is keen to lead, develop and inspire a growing team of ambitious engineers.
Requirements;
- 8+ years of experience working in the regulated energy industry
- Prior experience of working in a consultancy environment or procuring those services as a client
- Proven track record in leading and managing technical teams
- Experience in business development and client facing activities
- Ability to engage with clients, forming long term and mutually beneficial relationships
- Commercial awareness of consultancy projects, including setting and adhering to project budgets, scrutiny and understanding of contractual obligations, and identification and mitigation of commercial risks.
