Our purpose is to provide transformative education centered on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ knowledges, imagination and voice, with teaching, learning and research accountable to Country and community.
We have recently developed a new Performance Development and Management Framework and supporting suite of tools to strengthen how we set expectations, support development, have meaningful performance conversations and recognise contribution across the Institute.
The framework is built. Now we need someone to bring it to life. take the new framework from design into practice!
Why join Batchelor Institute?
At Batchelor Institute, you’ll work in an environment where culture is strength, relationships matter and the work you do contributes to something bigger.
This is an opportunity to lead a significant Institute-wide project and help shape how performance and development is embedded across our organisation.
What we offer:
- A starting salary of $121,888 plus Super
- Six weeks annual recreation leave
- 13% employer superannuation

- A supportive and culturally responsive working environment
The opportunity to lead an Institute-wide People & Culture initiative and make a lasting impact.
About the role This role is about turning a new framework into meaningful practice.
Over 12 months, you will lead the transition from design to implementation, working across Batchelor Institute to establish a performance and development approach that people understand, managers are confident using and the organisation can sustain.
You’ll work closely with leaders, managers and staff to build capability, strengthen performance conversations and introduce consistent approaches to goal setting, development, assessment and moderation.
As the framework rolls out, you’ll listen to what is working, identify where people are getting stuck and solve problems as they emerge. You’ll use feedback and evidence to refine the approach and make sure it works across our diverse workforce and operating environments.
At the end of the 12 months, your impact will be visible: a new framework that has moved beyond paper and into practice, managers with greater confidence and capability, clearer expectations for staff, and a sustainable approach to performance and development that is embedded across the Institute.
About you You know that implementing change is about more than launching a new process.
You can take something that has been designed, understand what it is trying to achieve and work out what needs to happen to make it successful in practice. You’re comfortable navigating complexity, bringing people together and finding practical solutions when things don’t go exactly to plan.
You’ll be confident working with people at different levels of an organisation and able to build trust, influence others and provide clear advice. You’ll also understand that how change is implemented matters, particularly in a culturally diverse organisation.
You’ll bring: - Demonstrated experience leading the implementation of complex organisational, workforce or business improvement initiatives, including translating new frameworks or policies into practical and sustainable ways of working.
- Strong project management, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, risks and dependencies and resolve complex implementation issues.
- Strong knowledge and experience in contemporary performance development and management practices, including goal setting, feedback, capability development and performance assessment.
- Demonstrated ability to build organisational capability through practical guidance, training and support for managers and staff.
- Highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to provide high-level advice, influence outcomes and work effectively with leaders, managers and staff.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement and operate effectively in a culturally diverse environment, including managing sensitive and confidential matters.
Experience implementing performance or workforce frameworks, using ELMO or similar HRIS, and working in tertiary education, the public sector or with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities will be highly regarded.
