Purpose of the PositionThe Student Recreation Officer is the focal point for all Recreation and Residential information and processes, related to sport and recreational programs, provisions, and activities for students, staff and external clientele. The Student Recreation Officer is employed to provide culturally safe, secure and appropriate sport and recreational activities and residential environments for the benefit of students, staff and external clientele whilst residing on the Batchelor Campus.
The Student Recreation Officer works rostered hours to support a sport and recreational program and Residential Services. This position will assist in the day-to-day operations of the Student Experience Directorate to enhance the experience of students.
Duties(a) Student Recreation - Be the focal point for enquiries on Batchelor campus regarding information and processes related to sport and recreational programs, provisions, and activities.
- Liaise with appropriate staff members, divisions of the Institute or external stakeholders for development, implementation and coordinate an annual sport and recreational program for students.
- Circulate a weekly sport and recreational program for students.
- Maintain and monitor recreational equipment loan process and asset register.
- Maintain and monitor Student Lounge and Gym facilities
- Maintain and monitor activity and attendance statistical data regarding sport and recreational provisions, programs, and activities.
- Assist with the organization of Institute buses assigned for student usage.
- Assist in the organisation of, or undertake, the transporting of students, to and from, sport and recreational activities, as required.
- Assist with Orientations for VET and Higher Education & Research students and candidates, Institute staff and prospective clients.
(b) Residential - Monitor & maintain the Residential accommodation booking system.
- Action student travel workshop schedules for Batchelor Campus.
- Liaise with the Catering team for special dietary requirements for students.
- Identify repair & maintenance requirements of residences.
- Maintain the linen stores and arrange the laundry and dry-cleaning services.
- Assist students with support requirements within the residence whilst on campus.
- Provision of social, emotional, wellbeing and pastoral support for students in residence.
Selection Criteria - Certificate III or higher in a relevant discipline and/or working towards completion of, or relevant experience in a similar role.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities, and organisations.
- Highly effective interpersonal skills including proficient written and oral communication which can be adapted to meet the needs of people from all educational levels.
- Demonstrated capability in participating in a diverse team to obtain outcomes of success.
- Ability to demonstrate meeting multiple conflicting deadlines.
- Demonstrated capability in the understanding and interpretation of procedures that relate to Commonwealth/State legislation.
- Understanding of Work, Health and Safety, Equity and Anti-discrimination principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.

- Applicants must be able and willing to undertake travel throughout the NT and Interstate (sometimes as a light aircraft passenger) and possess a C class Driver’s Licence.
Work Health & Safety - Ensure all activities comply with WHS legislation and Institute policies & procedures.
- Implement & monitor risk management activities including, but not limited to, workplace inspections, incident/hazard investigation and follow-up, and implementation of risk controls.
- Analysis of WHS training requirements for staff including the provision of training and monitoring of training to ensure completion and currency.
