Required Qualifications
Applicants must meet the Credential Policy 2025 requirements including to hold

• TAE40110 or TAE40116 or TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or
• A diploma or higher-level qualification in adult education or vocational education and training, or
• A secondary teaching qualification and one of the following credentials:
• TAESS00011 Assessor Skill Set, or
• TAESS00019 Assessor Skill Set or its successor, or
• TAESS00024 VET Delivered to School Students Teacher Enhancement Skill Set or its successor.

AND:

• Vocational qualifications and recent industry experience at least to the level being assessed

Purpose of the Position
The Lecturer Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care is responsible for the development and delivery of innovative VET programs underpinned by the Batchelor Institute Both-ways principles of practice as well as contributing to research within the areas of Health and Health Services.

Duties

• Delivery and assessment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care training courses at both remote Indigenous Australian communities and campus based as required. Including lectures, tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, work experience and student field excursions, in styles appropriate to the client group.
• Prepare training schedules and plans, application and enrolment forms and associated resources required for the effective and efficient delivery of the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care course.
• Develop appropriate teaching materials which respond to clients’ learning needs.
• Teaching and facilitation of culturally appropriate teaching and learning activities.
• Conduct assessment as required, demonstrating an understanding of the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence and contribute to the development of assessment tools, or modify existing ones, to suit learner needs and specified context.
• Employ a range of methods to ensure principles of assessment and rules of evidence are met in assessment processes and decisions as well as participate in validation processes.
• Maintain all student records as required, report progression of students to the VET Directorate and relevant Institute areas.
• Undertake administrative tasks required by all Batchelor Institute staff in relation to course delivery.
• Advise students on and document assessments of student competency according to the Institute’s Academic Rules and the national quality standards (ASQA). Consult with and counsel students on their academic progress and recommend appropriate action.
• Maintain vocational competency relevant to own subject area; keep up to date with industry changes; participate in relevant industry and community events/networks/consultation.
• Attend VET Division and Institute meetings as required and participate in quality assurance activities and programs.
• Undertake travel throughout the Northern Territory and while staying on country to deliver workshop block training and assessment.
• Liaise with remote Aboriginal communities and health industry partners.
• Perform other duties typically associated with this designation, as well as any additional reasonable tasks directed by your line manager.

Selection Criteria

1. Demonstrated capacity to work effectively within the social, political and cultural environments of Indigenous Australian communities and organisations and communicate sensitively and effectively with indigenous Australians, including adult students and community members.
2. 3 years’ experience as a registered Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner or Registered Nurse with current registration with AHPRA or An Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Health worker
3. 3 years’ relevant experience in delivering VET and or VET in Secondary Schools VETss Community Services programs in Indigenous Australian communities or organisations.
4. Current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE) or Diploma or higher-level qualification in adult education or equivalent as required by ASQA standards. Must hold Certificate IV (HLT40213 or HLT40113) and Diploma (HLT50213) in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, or Bachelor of Nursing.
5. Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in Vocational Education and Training, including managing student progression that will enable VET programs in the relevant teaching areas to be researched, prepared, delivered, assessed, evaluated, and administered in a variety of contexts, including remote contexts and workplace delivery, with reference to the above domains of work requirements.
6. Demonstrated understanding of and ability to comply with VET management and administration policies, procedures and business rules and an understanding of the Standards for RTO’s 2025 and relevant legislation and ensure compliance in own work practices.
7. Highly effective interpersonal skills including proficient written and oral communication which can be adapted to meet the needs of people from all educational levels.
8. Ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
9. Demonstrated initiative and managing workload priorities.
10. The successful candidate must possess a sufficient level of physical fitness and resilience to undertake frequent travel throughout the Northern Territory by land, sea, and air (including in light aircraft. This includes the ability to perform physical tasks such as changing a tyre and loading or unloading teaching resources, sometimes in challenging environmental conditions. Candidates must hold a Northern Territory ‘C’ class driver’s licence, have experience driving on unformed roads, and be prepared to stay in a variety of accommodations and settings as required by Batchelor Institute.
11. Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.
