Purpose of the Position The Manager Digital Learning Experience will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organisation’s digital education landscape. This position will ensure that all digital programs align with Batchelor’s strategic directions, and to identify and source appropriate resources to support the design, implementation, and ongoing management of the Learning Management System. Key responsibilities are to build a robust e-learning framework, allocate resources, collaborate to develop policies and procedures, and establish opportunities to build staff capability through tailored training and guidance.
The Manager Digital Learning Experience ensures that all online learning initiatives align with pedagogical best practice, meet regulatory requirements, and remain grounded in the Batchelor Institute’s Both-Ways philosophy.
Duties - Proactively identify processes to develop, maintain and review the configuration, and implementation of the CANVAS LMS and system integrations, to support quality online education delivery.
- Lead the planning and delivery of digital learning projects and own the end-to-end conversion of existing training content, interpreting technical and compliance-focused content, and transforming it into engaging, learner-friendly modules.
- Model teamwork by working collaboratively and cooperatively with Compliance, Systems, and Academic teams to ensure all digital content meets organisational quality and regulatory standards in both the VET and Higher Education sectors (as relevant to each digital learning project).
- Create a culture that encourages empowers and enables staff to undertake professional development, including facilitating internal training workshops and developing instructional resources that support staff capability development, and ensure a consistent, high-quality approach to LMS design and delivery.
- Objectively and systematically develop online learning policies, procedures, and user instructions that support consistent, compliant practice.
- Establish and oversee accessible and inclusive design standards for all digital learning materials, ensuring the team's outputs align with WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines, UDL principles, and the needs of diverse learners including those with disabilities.
- Lead the conversion of existing training materials into engaging, learner-friendly digital modules, applying UDL principles and established instructional design processes to deliver contextualised, culturally responsive learning experiences that are accessible and meaningful for all learners — including First Nations peoples and those from diverse backgrounds.
- Lead the technical oversight of CANVAS, including managing content updates, user roles, and integrations.
- Objectively and systematically analyse system performance, user engagement, and feedback to drive continuous improvement in the online learning experience.
- Source information and lead troubleshooting techniques for technical and system related issues related to the design and deployment of LMS.
Selection Criteria - Proven track record of leading digital learning initiatives, including establishing design and accessibility standards, directing a team of learning developers, and managing the end-to-end delivery of online learning projects across priority areas.
- Strong experience at level in the implementation and management of a Learning Management System, preferably CANVAS, including proficiency in digital tools and platforms relevant to online learning and coordinating interfaces to other digital systems.
- Proven ability to uplift staff capability in digital learning tools and practice, designing and delivering targeted support that enables teams and individuals to confidently design online learning content.
- Proven ability to develop and implement instructional design standards, workflows, and supporting resources such as design blueprints, style guides, and production toolkits to support efficient and consistent online learning delivery.
- Demonstrated experience to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities, and organisations.
- Highly effective interpersonal skills including proficient written and oral communication which can be adapted to meet the needs of people from all educational levels, and multiple stakeholders.
- Demonstrated knowledge and practical understanding of the structure, intent, and application of Training Packages and related regulatory frameworks across both VET and Higher Education sectors, in a digital e-leaning context.
- Experience in managing a team effectively within a compliance-driven environment, with the ability to apply regulatory requirements to daily work practices.
- Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, and willingness to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.
Desirable - Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116 or equivalent).
