Hold a current Australian Driver’s license. Must be confident to operate a manual 4WD vehicle and drive as a single driver on remote, dirt roads.


Required Qualifications

• A tertiary qualification in Education, Literacy/Numeracy, Adult Learning or similar (at Certificate IV level or higher).
• A current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment OR Diploma of Vocational Education and Training to be able to deliver and assess accredited VET courses.
• First Aid Certificate

Purpose of the Position
The Learning Centre Coordinator is responsible for the day to day running of the Learning Centre. The Coordinator works closely with the local Advisory Group to determine priorities for providing education and training opportunities for adult community members to improve their employment opportunities and life skills, especially core language, literacy and numeracy skills.

The Learning Centre aims to provide for a wide range of formal and informal adult education and training. The Coordinator plays a key role in recruiting, training and supporting casual, local staff to gain the skills required to eventually manage and coordinate the Learning Centre. The Coordinator and local staff work together to ensure that the community has daily access to use the computer, internet and library facilities at times negotiated with the local Advisory Group.

Duties

• Manage the day to day running of the Learning Centre, including reporting maintenance and ICT issues, and ordering goods and services. Work with Institute staff to resolve issues.
• Establish and convene a local Advisory Group at the beginning of each academic term to establish a term based training plan of community identified informal and formal training priorities.
• Liaise with the Advisory Group to provide cultural advice and support to the Learning Centre Coordinator including the development of local guidelines and rules for the Centre.
• Recruit, train and supervise casual staff employed in the Learning Centre
• Provide flexible community access to the Learning Centre resources. Assist community members to use the facilities, including computers and Internet.
• Liaise with other service providers in the community to facilitate and/or deliver locally identified training priorities (for example local Youth Workers) as well as work experience and employment opportunities (for example CDP and local Council).
• Provide support to community members completing training courses: (a) enrolled at another BIITE campus: (b) through another education or training provided at the Learning Centre, including facilitating communication between the student and their lecturer.
• Collect quantitative data as required for reporting purpose. Collect data and write progress reports as required by Batchelor Institute and CLC.
• Mentor Yapa staff with a view to a future Yapa management of the Learning Centre

Selection Criteria

1. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities, and organisations.
2. Experience working in the VET system including significant experience teaching VET accredited courses.
3. The ability to involve community members and a range of diverse agency groups in the development and the operations of a dynamic Learning Centre while fostering a strong sense of local ownership.
4. Strength in mentoring and supervising others in a team approach, including the ability to consult, negotiate and achieve positive outcomes.
5. Proficient in the use of digital technologies (e.g. computers, office equipment and internet-based technologies) and ability to liaise with relevant staff to resolve ICT issues. Proficient to the level to be able to assist community members with using digital technologies.
6. Well-developed problem-solving, organisational and administrative skills, especially in a remote location.
7. Demonstrated understanding of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action principles and practices.
8. Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.
