Purpose of the Position
The Senior Lecturer Resources and Infrastructure Industry (RII) is responsible for leading the delivery of Civil Construction, Automotive, Engineering and licencing within the context of Batchelor Institute's role as Australia's leading First Nations Tertiary Education and Research provider. The Senior Lecturer RII is responsible for managing accountabilities for relevant student outcomes, financial budgets, VET Training products and relevant projects underpinned by the Batchelor Institute Both-ways principles of practice and improving individual and team performance in the Domains of Work and Work Skills.
In addition, the Senior Lecturer RII will assist the Director of VET Business Operations with planning, implementing, evaluating and reporting VET requirements.

Duties

• Review relevant theoretical framework about learning and teaching in VET and apply and model the use of theories in VET teaching practice.
• Provide leadership and recognised expertise in learning design and implementing the Batchelor Institute Learning and Teaching Framework across varying contexts and a range of delivery methods.
• Negotiate with learners and stakeholders to identify measures of success and evaluation strategy; develop and implement tools and techniques to evaluate program outcomes, report on evaluation outcomes and recommend system improvements.
• Coordinate industry validation, critically evaluate validation outcomes, and implement improvements to assessment strategies.
• Negotiate with industry bodies, communities, and stakeholders to ensure that learning programs meet or exceed expectations and that teaching, and assessment practices reflect current industry trends and community values and aspirations.
• Ensure team compliance with Standards for RTO’s 2025 and relevant legislation.
• Achieve priorities and team goals; foster structured approaches, including reflective practice to develop team members skills.
• Provide leadership about training packages, accredited courses, learner guide implementation and assessment design.
• Model Both-ways cultural understanding; seek guidance from appropriate Aboriginal advisors and supports and develop cultural competence within the teaching team.
• Inspire trust and confidence; demonstrate Batchelor Institute values, attitudes and behaviours that respect colleagues and learners.
• Mentor team to foster learner engagement, retention, and success; communicate persuasive messages to a range of audiences.
• Encourage staff to generate and share new and different approaches; advocate for change; lead team to plan and implement digital learning modes.
• Undertake other reasonable duties as directed by your line manager.

Selection Criteria

1. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities, and organisations.
2. The successful candidate must possess a relevant vocational qualification, preferably at the diploma or degree level combined with a minimum of 3 years Industry/professional/vocational experience. Additionally, the successful candidate must have the minimum vocational teaching qualification; Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE40110 (or successor) or Diploma or higher-level qualification in adult education or equivalent as accepted by ASQA standards.
3. The successful candidate must hold a High Risk Licence in Forklift and Elevated Work Platform.
4. Demonstrated ability to lead and contribute to the development of teaching and learning programs and resources in accordance with the relevant national training packages, responding effectively to the learning needs of adult Indigenous Australians.
5. Demonstrated capacity to manage the associated administrative tasks related to the delivery of VET including ensuring internal and external Quality Assurance processes are met, relevant administrative responsibilities and HR matters.
6. Demonstrated ability to manage culturally diverse teams effectively and provide leadership and undertake a range of management tasks including management of program budgets and performance management of staff within the team. This will include skills to be able to: work independently of direct supervision; possess good time management and computer technology and electronic communication skills.
7. Demonstrated commitment to undertake professional development in area of expertise and demonstrated capacity to undertake research and development projects.
8. Must be able to undertake travel throughout the Northern Territory in a light aircraft, must possess a Northern Territory C class drivers’ licence with experience of driving on unformed roads, and must be prepared to stay in a range of accommodation available to the Batchelor Institute staff, including camping out.
9. Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.
