Purpose of the Position
The Director People and Culture will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources practices and processes. The role aligns Batchelor Institute’s goals with Human Resources initiative and leads and develops the People and Culture team and effectively manage employee relations, performance management, compliance and other Human Resources programs.

Duties

• Develop and implement a Workforce Development Plan that incorporates HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy.
• Liaise between management and employees, addressing demands, grievances, or other issues.
• Support current and future business needs through development, engagement, motivation, and retention of human capital.
• Design and monitor overall HR strategies, systems, policies and procedures across the organisation, including projects to build capability across the organisation.
• Foster and promote a positive and inclusive working environment.
• Oversee and manage a performance development and appraisal system that supports career progression and promotes high performance.
• Provide reports to management that support decision making through analysis of HR metrics.
• Ensure compliance with regulating bodies such as ASQA and TEQSA through maintaining up to date policies and accurate and timely HR reporting.
• Maintain legal compliance across all aspects of human resource management.
• Engage with unions and other external stakeholders as appropriate.

Selection Criteria

1. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural contexts of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities, and organisations.
2. A minimum of five years’ experience in a senior Human Resources role, with demonstrated expertise in:
   • 1. Industrial relations processes and HR contemporary best practices;
   • 2. Leading high performing, service-oriented HR team;
   • 3. Providing accurate and strategic HR advice and data to the senior executives;
   • 4. Developing and implement HR strategies and programs; and
   • 5. Preparing reports and delivering statistical insights.
3. Highly effective interpersonal skills including proficient written and oral communication, adaptable to diverse audiences.
4. Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
5. Strong project planning and implement skills, with the ability to drive and influence outcomes.
6. Demonstrated initiative and ability to manage workload priorities, meet tight deadlines and exercise sound judgement in delegating tasks.
7. Sound understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, with a commitment to complying with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.

1. Tertiary qualification in Human Resources or a related field
