Required Qualifications
A tertiary qualification equivalent to three (3) year’s higher education relevant to a qualification in TESOL/ESL, significant experience in ACSF assessments.

Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE40116, TAE40122 or Diploma or higher-level qualification in adult education or equivalent as required by ASQA standards.

Must have TAESS00026 – Foundation Skills Integration Skill Set or willingness to obtain within timeframe

Any additional Vocational or trade qualifications to support students’ employability skills would be desirable.

Purpose of the Position
The Lecturer Foundation Skills  is responsible for the delivery of quality Vocational Education and Training (VET) within the context of Batchelor Institute's role as Australia's leading First Nations Tertiary Education and Research provider. The Lecturer is responsible for the development and delivery of innovative VET programs underpinned by the Batchelor Institute Both-ways principles of practice in the areas of Foundation Skills Education and Training.
  
Duties

• Conduct effective pre- and post- training ACSF assessments of learners.
• Delivery of Certificate I and II Foundation Skills and other employability courses based on successful applicants’ relevant qualifications through a range of flexible methodologies.
• Prepare training plans and enrolments forms and associated resources required for the effective and efficient delivery and assessment of courses.
• Demonstrate awareness of VET educational theories; determine applicability of theories to the learning needs of individuals and groups and contribute to development of resources and programs based on the Batchelor Institute Learning and Teaching Framework which generates authentic learning experiences and to the design of flexible learning strategies.
• Use strategies and skills to ensure learner engagement and achievement of leaning outcomes; create supportive learner inter-relationships; use a range of technologies effectively.
• Demonstrate understanding of the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence and contribute to the development of assessment tools, or modify existing ones, to suit learner needs and specified context.
• Employ a range of methods to ensure principles of assessment and rules of evidence are met in assessment processes and decisions as well as participate in validation processes.
• Liaise with enterprises and community to ensure teaching and assessment reflects current industry practices and community values and aspirations. In addition, participate in enterprise and community networks to enhance own knowledge and skills.
• Maintain vocational competency relevant to own subject area; keep up to date with industry changes; participate in relevant industry and community events/networks/consultation.
• Undertake travel throughout the Northern Territory and while staying on country to deliver workshop block training and assessment.

  
Selection Criteria

1. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities, and organisations.
2. The successful candidate must possess a relevant vocational qualification of A tertiary qualification equivalent to three (3) year’s higher education relevant to a qualification in TESOL/ESL, significant experience in ACSF assessments. Any additional Vocational or trade qualifications to support students’ employability skills would be desirable.
3. The successful candidate must have the minimum vocational teaching qualification; Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE40116, TAE40122 or Diploma or higher-level qualification in adult education as indicated in the RTO standards 2015.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in Vocational Education and Training, including managing student progression that will enable VET programs in the relevant teaching areas to be researched, prepared, delivered, assessed, evaluated, and administered in a variety of contexts, including remote contexts and workplace delivery, with reference to the above domains of work requirements.
5. Highly effective interpersonal skills including proficient written and oral communication which can be adapted to meet the needs of people from all educational levels and for whom English may not be the first language.
6. Demonstrated understanding of and ability to comply with VET management and administration policies, procedures and business rules and an understanding of the Standards for RTO’s 2015 and relevant legislation and ensure compliance in own work practices.
7. The successful candidate must possess a sufficient level of physical fitness and resilience to undertake frequent travel throughout the Northern Territory by land, sea, and air (including in light aircraft), often for extended stays of 1–2 weeks in remote communities. This includes the ability to perform physical tasks such as changing a tyre and loading or unloading teaching resources, sometimes in challenging environmental conditions. Candidates must hold a Northern Territory ‘C’ class driver’s licence, have experience driving on unformed roads, and be prepared to stay in a variety of accommodations and settings as required by Batchelor Institute.
8. Understanding of Work, Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS policies and procedures.

  
Desirable

1. Possess the qualifications to be able to delivery and assess Certificate in General Education for Adults (CGEA) which include the Core Skills Reading, Writing, Oral and Numeracy units, relevant vocational competencies refer to demonstrable expertise in teaching literacy.
