Desirable

• A Tertiary qualification in a relevant field and/or substantial recent experience in the editing and publishing sector.
• NT Driver’s License Class C or the ability to obtain one.
• Sound knowledge of graphic design in a cross-platform environment.

Purpose of the Position
The position will manage overall operations for Batchelor Institute Press including project and editorial management towards the delivery of Batchelor Press activities (including publications and related events), oversight of publication production and coordination, and supervision of support staff.

Duties
In collaboration with/under direction of Director, Executive Services:

• Develop and execute publishing strategies that align with Institute’s overall goals and objectives.
• Manage the editorial process, including reviewing, proofreading and editing manuscripts, collaborating with authors, and coordinating with designers and other production staff.
• Manage copyright permissions and related legal advice.
• Oversee the design and production of printed or digital publications, ensuring they meet high standards for quality and accuracy.
• Manage relationships with printers and distributors to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of publications to customers.
• Market and promote publications to target audiences through various channels, such as social media, email campaigns and advertising.
• Create and oversee budgets for each publication, ensuring they are financially viable and profitable.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and best practices and use this knowledge to continuously improve the publishing process.
• Undertake other reasonable duties as directed by your line manager.

Selection Criteria

1. Demonstrated expertise in a publishing/editorial environment and have a good understanding of Indigenous Australian issues particularly in relation to publishing priorities and protocols and in the context of developing Indigenous Australian language-based resources.
2. Have a good understanding of the printing industry and relevant publication standards including copyright and permissions.
3. Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities while ensuring a high level of accuracy and quality of presentation in all publications.
4. Skills in Adobe Creative Suite (high level of proficiency in InDesign and Acrobat), and Microsoft Office Suite. Experience in managing/oversight of websites.
5. Demonstrated experience in management/project management roles including experience in account management and new business development, including development of quotations.
6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities, and organisations.
7. Highly effective interpersonal skills including proficient written and oral communication which can be adapted to meet the needs of people from all educational levels.
8. Ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
9. Strong leadership skills including the ability to develop and motivate a small but output orientated team.
10. Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.
