Position: Checkpoint Firewall Subject Matter Expert          
Location: Hybrid in Toronto (Two days per week on-site)
Duration: 6-month initial contract
 
Background: 
 
The Checkpoint SME (Firewall) is responsible for the design, implementation, management, and troubleshooting of Checkpoint firewall solutions within the organization. The SME will serve as the primary technical resource for all matters related to Checkpoint security products, ensuring robust network security and compliance with industry best practices.
 
Qualifications: 
 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Checkpoint firewall administration and support.
• Strong knowledge of Checkpoint R80.x (and above), SmartConsole, and Gaia OS.
• Experience with VPNs (site-to-site, remote access), clustering, and high availability.
• Proficiency in network protocols (TCP/IP, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, etc.).
• Familiarity with security best practices, compliance standards (PCI DSS, ISO 27001, etc.).
• Experience with security incident response and troubleshooting.
• Checkpoint certifications (CCSA, CCSE) are highly preferred.
• Scripting skills (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation are a plus.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with other firewall platforms (Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ASA, etc.)(Preferred)
• Knowledge of cloud security (AWS, Azure, GCP) and Checkpoint CloudGuard.(Preferred)
• Experience with SIEM, IDS/IPS, and endpoint security integration. (Preferred)
• Checkpoint Certified Security Administrator (CCSA) – Required/Preferred
• Checkpoint Certified Security Expert (CCSE) – Preferred

 
 
 
Expected Tasks:
 

• Design, deploy, and manage Checkpoint firewall solutions, including Security Gateways, Management Servers, and related security appliances.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis of firewall and network security incidents.
• Develop and maintain firewall policies, NAT rules, VPN configurations, and security zones.
• Conduct regular firewall rule reviews, audits, and optimization to ensure compliance and efficiency.
• Lead or assist in security projects, migrations, and upgrades involving Checkpoint technologies.
• Integrate Checkpoint firewalls with other security solutions (SIEM, IDS/IPS, endpoint security, etc.).
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members and other IT staff.
• Document configurations, processes, and procedures related to firewall management.
• Stay current with Checkpoint product updates, vulnerabilities, and industry trends.
• Liaise with vendors and support teams for escalation and resolution of complex issues.
