Business Analyst | Payments Transformation 

Contract: ASAP to 18 December 2026
Location: Flexible (Australia-wide considered)

We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst to join a high-performing, multi-disciplinary team delivering a major whole-of-government reform program focused on the cessation of domestic cheque payments.

This role will support a critical transformation initiative aimed at transitioning away from cheque-based payment methods in line with mandated government deadlines. The program is designed to ensure continuity of service for customers throughout the transition, including vulnerable cohorts who may be impacted by changes to traditional payment channels.

About the Role

The Business Analyst will play a key role in supporting the definition, analysis, and documentation of business requirements relating to the removal of cheque payment functionality across government payment systems.

You will work closely with stakeholders to understand current-state cheque payment processes and associated use cases, and help define future-state requirements that support secure, efficient, and accessible alternative payment methods.

Key Responsibilities

• Facilitate workshops to elicit, validate, and document detailed business requirements
• Analyse current-state payment processes, including cheque issuance, processing, reconciliation, and exception handling
• Map and document end-to-end business processes and payment use cases
• Support the development of future-state operating models aligned to digital and electronic payment channels
• Produce high-quality business analysis artefacts including Business Requirements Specifications, process maps, and supporting documentation
• Engage with stakeholders to ensure requirements are clearly defined, prioritised, and traceable through delivery

About You

• Minimum 5+ years’ experience as a Business Analyst in complex environments
• Strong understanding of government payment systems, including Medicare and/or corporate payment processing
• Demonstrated experience documenting detailed business requirements and process flows
• Proven ability to facilitate workshops and engage diverse stakeholder groups
• Ability to analyse legacy payment processes, including cheque-based payment systems, and support transition to digital alternatives

Desirable

• Previous experience working with cheque payment processes or similar legacy payment channels within government environments
