We are seeking an experienced EL1 Assistant Director to join our federal government client.

Canberra preferred, open to other locations.
12 month contract with 12 month extension option. $100 p/h including super (negotiable)
This role suits a confident EL1 with strong governance, information release, and mental health–related experience, who is comfortable managing complex and sensitive matters in a high-integrity environment.
About the Role As an EL1 Assistant Director in Information Releases, you will undertake complex and sensitive work with a high degree of autonomy and accountability, supporting clinical governance processes and high-quality decision-making.
Key responsibilities include:
Preparing well-written and considered Clinical Incident Reviews, reports, and responses to clinical incident notifications and sensitive matters in accordance with legislation and procedures
Analysing clinical and contextual information to identify contributing factors to client suicidal distress, applying no-blame culture principles
Working across multiple systems to review, collate, and manage highly sensitive client information with exceptional attention to detail
Undertaking complex work under limited direction, exercising sound judgement and accountability
Supporting senior leadership in organising and managing Clinical Panels and Clinical Incident Review meetings
Contributing to continuous quality improvement, policy development, and governance arrangements
Demonstrating high levels of integrity, professionalism, emotional intelligence, and positive team culture
Managing risk in mental health settings, including identifying risks associated with sensitive clinical information
Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support broader Commonwealth Government objectives
Applying cooperative and safe working practices consistent with APS Values and departmental mission and values
About You
You are an experienced EL1 (or equivalent) with strong governance and information management expertise and the ability to operate confidently in complex, sensitive environments.
You will bring:
Demonstrated experience working at EL1 level (or equivalent) in a governance or statutory role
Extensive experience managing FOI requests, Privacy Act matters, subpoenas, and legal correspondence
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of defensible decisions and senior executive advice
Proven experience leading and managing teams in complex operational environments
High levels of judgement, resilience, and attention to detail
Desirable
Experience working within the Australian Public Service
