Senior Software Developer

Location: Canberra, ACT (Hybrid considered, on-site required as needed)
Organisation: Our Federal Government Client
Contract: 12 months, with 2 x 12-month extensions available
Hours: Full-time, up to 40 hours per week
Clearance: Must be able to obtain Baseline security clearance
Level: Senior - EL1 equivalent
Rate: $135.00 - $145.00 p/h including super (negotiable)

About the Role
Our federal government client is seeking a Senior Software Developer to join its development team. Reporting to the Software Developer Team Lead, you will partner with senior business stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions that support critical systems and enable integration across the national health sector.

This role requires someone who thrives in a fast-paced, forward-thinking environment, capable of exercising initiative and sound judgement in applying policies, technical practices, and procedures to solve complex problems.
You will contribute across the full software development lifecycle, from analysis and design to development, testing, and support, while also leading improvements in automation, security, and development practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deliver effective software solutions using best-practice methods.
• Provide technical recommendations and contribute to continuous improvement.
• Contribute to system development, including smartphone applications.
• Maintain, analyse, and remediate existing systems, ensuring alignment with business and security requirements.
• Support integration of software solutions across multiple platforms.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide support and maintenance for systems in line with the Information Security Manual (ISM).
• Champion secure development practices and contribute to uplift in development standards.

Essential Technical Skills & Experience

• Frontend Development: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript
• Programming Languages: C#, PowerShell
• Databases: SQL, T-SQL
• Reporting: SSRS, Power BI
• APIs & Web Services
• Mobile Application Development
• Microsoft Azure DevOps: pipelines, repositories, GitHub Advanced Security

Desirable

• Relevant certifications and qualifications in software development or ICT.
• Strong knowledge of secure coding standards and practices.
• Previous experience in national health or government sector ICT environments.
