The Practice
Dr Scott Shemer is a specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, who cares for patients and families in Melbourne from normal to high-risk pregnancies. His busy and well-established obstetric practice is known for providing exceptional care to patients from pre-conception through pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period.

The Role and Responsibilities
An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Medical Administrator to join the team on a 12-month maternity leave contract, commencing Monday, 7th September 2026.
Working Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays (8:00am-4:00pm), with occasional flexibility when required, you'll be the first point of contact for patients and play a vital role in ensuring the practice runs smoothly each day. This is a role for someone who enjoys building genuine rapport with patients, thrives in a busy environment and takes pride in providing exceptional administrative support.
Based at Reception your responsibilities will include:
- Welcoming patients and coordinating appointments, including scheduling, confirmations and follow-up bookings
- Responding to patient enquiries via phone and email with warmth and professionalism
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records
- Processing billing, Medicare claims and patient payments
- Liaising with hospitals, specialists and allied health providers
- Providing administrative support to the doctor and wider clinical team
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and ensuring compliance with privacy requirements
Skills and Experience Required
You'll be an organised, proactive and compassionate professional who enjoys helping others and understands the importance of creating a positive experience for every patient.
To be successful, you'll bring:
- Previous experience in medical administration (essential)
- Experience within an obstetrics, gynaecology or specialist medical practice (highly regarded)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Confidence using Microsoft Office and medical software systems (Genie experience will be highly regarded)
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Familiarity with Medicare billing and health fund processes
- Sound understanding of confidential medical record handling
