Infrastructure People has partnered with a leading rail business, renowned for delivering major rail transportation and infrastructure projects across the Asia Pacific, including trams, high-speed rail, integrated systems, and signalling solutions.

About the Role:

They are seeking a Contract Manager to join their team based in Wellington on a permanent basis. Reporting to the business Contract Lead and collaborating closely with the Project Manager, you will be a pivotal member of the project team, providing leadership in contract and claims management. You will develop and implement proactive strategies for contract administration and risk mitigation, including handling extensions of time, variation orders, and contract amendments. As an expert in contract and claims management, you will ensure meticulous record-keeping and robust file preparation to support project success.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement contract management strategies, applying protocols for contracts, claims, and insurance in collaboration with the project team.
• Monitor project progress against contractual obligations and schedules, ensuring timely issuance of notices to clients and partners to meet milestones.
• Establish project-specific commercial procedures for correspondence, notifications, insurance, variation requests/orders, and claims preparation, while analyzing incoming and outgoing correspondence with the Project Manager.
• Create processes for contract and claims management, anticipating risks, proposing proactive solutions, and adopting a pragmatic commercial approach to protect project interests.
• Collaborate with the project team to identify, mitigate, and manage risks while maximizing claim opportunities.
• Maintain accurate records and prepare robust documentation to support claims and contract amendments.
• Provide leadership in resolving contractual disputes and negotiating favorable outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with governance frameworks and contractual requirements.
• Support the project team in strategic decision-making to achieve project objectives.

About You:

• Tertiary degree in Law, Engineering, or Quantity Surveying.
• Extensive experience in contract and claims management within large-scale infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of contract and project management tools and systems.
• Proven ability to anticipate and manage conflicting priorities effectively.
• Demonstrated operational effectiveness and accountability in high-pressure environments.
• Ability to propose practical solutions to complex contractual challenges.
• Desirable: Experience in rail or transportation infrastructure projects.
