About the Role:
With a vision for growth and a strong pipeline of work, they are now seeking to appoint an experienced Engineering Manager to join their team based in Southern Sydney. As an expert in your field, you’ll lead the growth and technical delivery of electrical engineering services, ensuring excellence across high-voltage transmission, medium-voltage distribution, embedded generation, renewable assets (Solar PV, Wind, Battery Energy Storage Systems), and data center electrical infrastructure. You’ll be accountable for developing technical standards, ensuring regulatory compliance (NER, AEMO, NSP Guidelines), managing project risks, and delivering high-quality design outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership across HV/MV substation design, transmission/distribution feeders, renewable energy grid connections, protection/control systems, power system studies, and SCADA integration.
- Manage engineering deliverables through all project phases: feasibility, concept, detailed design, tender, construction, commissioning, and grid compliance.
- Develop and implement technical procedures, including Engineering Management Plans, Safety in Design, Verification & Validation Plans, and risk assessments.
- Lead technical reviews, workshops, and engagement with clients, NSPs, AEMO, and regulators.
- Mentor and develop a talented engineering team, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and technical excellence.
- Oversee technical delivery of multiple projects, ensuring quality, program, and budget compliance.
- Manage technical interfaces with disciplines, clients, contractors, and stakeholders, mitigating risks throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead assurance processes, including verification, validation, design audits, and compliance with NER and Australian Standards.
- Drive continuous improvement of technical systems, capturing lessons learned and championing innovation.
About You: - Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, CPEng/RPEQ, or equivalent (preferred).
- Proven experience in the delivery of complex electrical infrastructure projects in transmission (66kV–330kV), distribution (11kV–66kV), generation, or renewable energy, with proven leadership of multi-disciplinary teams.
- Expertise in power system design, grid connection processes (NER, AEMO GPS, NSP requirements), protection/control systems, and advanced power system studies.
- Strong stakeholder management with NSPs, AEMO, regulators, and EPC contractors, with excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Proven ability to lead technical governance, including design assurance, verification, validation, and safety-in-design.
- Commitment to mentoring engineering professionals and driving technical excellence.
- Experience with renewable energy projects (Solar PV, BESS, Wind) and AEMO GPS processes. (desirable)
