About the Company
Our client is an established and highly regarded commercial workplace design and build company specialising in delivering innovative, high-quality office environments.
With an impressive portfolio of projects and a strong reputation within the commercial interiors sector, the business delivers complex workplace fit-out projects for a range of clients.
This is an excellent opportunity to join an experienced and collaborative design team, taking a leading role in the technical delivery of significant commercial projects valued between £6.5 million and £12 million.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and technically accomplished Senior Technical Designer to join our client's London studio.
This position would suit a confident, proactive and highly organised individual who has extensive experience delivering commercial workplace design and build projects, with the ability to take ownership of the technical design process from design development through to construction and completion.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring projects are technically coordinated, accurately documented and delivered to the highest standards.
Our client currently uses AutoCAD as its primary in-house design software but is looking to introduce Revit into the studio.
While Revit experience is not essential, candidates with strong Revit capabilities and an interest in supporting its implementation would be particularly attractive.
Above all, the priority is finding an experienced technical designer who can confidently manage the technical aspects of large-scale commercial fit-out projects and work effectively alongside the wider design and construction teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the technical design process on commercial workplace projects valued between £6.5m and £12m.
- Lead the development and production of detailed technical drawing packages from design development through to construction and completion.
- Produce and coordinate comprehensive technical drawings, specifications, detailing and construction documentation.
- Ensure all technical information is accurate, coordinated and suitable for construction.
- Work closely with creative designers, project managers, consultants, contractors and subcontractors to ensure successful project delivery.
- Review architectural, structural and MEP information to identify and resolve technical coordination issues.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant building regulations, statutory requirements and industry standards.
- Attend design coordination meetings, site visits and technical workshops throughout the project lifecycle.
- Resolve technical challenges and provide practical, buildable solutions while maintaining the original design intent.
- Review subcontractor drawings, technical submissions and material specifications.
- Support the construction team by responding to technical queries and providing design clarification throughout the build.
- Monitor technical design progress against project programmes and key delivery milestones.
- Mentor and support junior technical designers, sharing knowledge and promoting best practices.
- Contribute to the continued development and improvement of the studio's technical design processes.
- Potentially support the introduction and implementation of Revit within the business.
Skills & ExperienceEssential
- Significant experience working as a Technical Designer or Senior Technical Designer within commercial interiors, workplace design or the design and build sector.
- A proven track record of managing technical design packages on substantial commercial office fit-out projects.
- Experience working on large-scale projects, ideally within the £6.5m-£12m range.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, with the ability to produce detailed and accurate construction drawing packages.
- Strong knowledge of commercial interior construction methods, materials, detailing and installation processes.
- Excellent understanding of UK Building Regulations and relevant construction standards.
- Experience coordinating technical information across architectural, structural and MEP disciplines.
- Ability to independently manage technical design responsibilities from design development through to construction and handover.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve complex technical challenges.
- Excellent communication, organisational and time-management skills.
- Confidence working directly with project managers, consultants, contractors and site teams.
- A proactive approach with the ability to manage competing deadlines and multiple project requirements.
Desirable
- Experience using Revit on commercial workplace or interior fit-out projects.
- Previous involvement in introducing Revit or developing BIM workflows within a design studio.
- Experience leading technical design teams or mentoring junior designers.
- A strong understanding of BIM coordination and digital design processes.
- Experience delivering CAT A and CAT B commercial office fit-out projects.
- Previous experience within a fast-paced design and build environment.

AutoCAD & Revit Development
Our client currently operates primarily using AutoCAD, which remains the core software for technical design and documentation.
However, the business is looking to introduce Revit as part of its longer-term development strategy.
Candidates with Revit experience would have an opportunity to contribute to this transition, potentially helping establish workflows, share knowledge and support the wider design team in adopting the software.
Revit experience is advantageous but not essential. The primary requirement is a technically strong and experienced designer who can confidently manage and deliver substantial commercial workplace projects.
Working Environment
Our client operates a five-day-a-week office policy, encouraging close collaboration between the creative, technical and project delivery teams.
Working from home may be accommodated where agreed in advance.
The successful candidate will join an established design team, working on significant commercial projects and playing an important role in maintaining the company's technical standards.
Salary & Benefits
Salary: £60,000 - £65,000 per annum, depending on experience.
