Support people from refugee backgrounds into meaningful, sustainable employment and help create positive outcomes for communities.
Who we are
English Language Partners New Zealand (ELPNZ) is a national not-for-profit organisation working with adult learners from refugee and migrant background. Operating in 21 locations throughout the country, we deliver English language tuition and settlement support to adults through a range of services. We are a NZQA Category 1 provider, and our activities are primarily funded by the Tertiary Education Commission. Our national office is in Wellington.
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join our newly established Pathways to Employment programme, supporting former refugees and migrants to achieve sustainable employment and successful settlement outcomes.
You will be part of a national team of 11 work brokers. You will collaborate with teachers, coordinators, and other staff to support job seekers on their journey towards meaningful employment.
An important part of your role is building and maintaining strong relationships with employers across the Wellington region. You will connect employers with our job seekers, identify suitable employment opportunities, and develop partnerships that create positive outcomes for both employers and our job seekers.
You will also be identifying the specific needs and skills of our job seekers, and working with the Centre staff to reduce the barriers that our job seekers may have to gaining full time, permanent employment.
You will assist them to prepare for work, writing CV’s, applying for jobs, attending interviews and when they are successful, understanding their contracts and their rights as an employee. You will also help them with the practical considerations when starting a job e.g. transport and childcare.
Your support will continue beyond securing employment. You will work alongside both the job seeker and employer during onboarding and provide ongoing support during the first 6 months of employment to help create positive and sustainable outcomes.
