Senior Geotechnical Engineer (PE) | Idaho & Eastern Washington | $130K–$150K + ESOP
What if your next move gave you more ownership of your work, not less?
This senior geotechnical role sits at the center of an established, full-service geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting, and construction materials testing firm that has served the Inland Northwest for more than 20 years. You will direct projects from the first proposal through field exploration, lab testing, analysis, and the final report. You will be the engineer clients call when they need a clear recommendation on complex ground conditions.
It is a role for an experienced PE who wants to keep doing real engineering while shaping the people around them. You will peer review work, mentor EITs, and help grow the next generation of geotechnical talent. An Employee Stock Ownership Plan gives you a genuine stake in the firm's success.
Why This Opportunity Is Different
- Most senior geotechnical roles force a choice between technical work and leadership. This one gives you both. You will handle shallow and deep foundation design, slope stability, and seismic hazard evaluations while mentoring EITs and, where it fits, supervising engineers and geologists through the full employee life cycle.
- You will report directly to the Engineering Services Manager, sit in on client and project kick-off meetings, and have real visibility into project financial performance. Project sites are typically within a two-hour drive of your home office, so field work means day trips, not weeks on the road.
- On top of that, you get a hybrid schedule, five office locations to choose from, an in-house training university, company-paid medical and dental, and relocation assistance considered case by case. It is a senior role built for the long term.
What You'll Be Doing - Direct geotechnical projects from proposal and field exploration through laboratory analysis, engineering analysis, and final report
- Evaluate ground conditions and translate them into sound design and construction recommendations
- Perform shallow and deep foundation designs, slope stability analyses, and seismic hazard evaluations
- Develop and manage geotechnical laboratory testing programs
- Peer review geotechnical reports prepared by other engineering staff
- Mentor EI/EITs and project engineers, and supervise engineering staff, staff engineers, and field technicians on assigned projects
- Review RFPs, build winning proposals, and serve as the key liaison between clients and the firm
- Lead client meetings to walk through recommendations before reports are issued, and attend special inspection and project kick-off meetings
- Monitor project progress and financial performance, and review billing before final invoicing
- Champion loss prevention best practices using GBA, Terra, and other industry resources
- Stay active in professional and technical societies
What We're Looking For - BS in Civil Engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) license, with registration in Idaho and/or Washington and Montana within 30 days of hire
- 10+ years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience
- Extensive experience preparing geotechnical reports and recommendations for shallow and deep foundations, pavements, site preparation, and site mitigation
- Strong background in soil mechanics, geotechnical analysis, and laboratory testing of soil
- Working knowledge of BoreDM, Settle3D, SLIDE, LPILE, Google Earth, AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office
- Proven project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently
- Clear, confident written and verbal communication with clients and design teams
- An acceptable driving record for insurance purposes and willingness to drive to project sites within the service region
- Bonus: a Master's in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering, and experience with Unanet CRM, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Outlook
Compensation & Work Model The base salary is $130,000 to $150,000. This is a direct-hire, exempt salaried position.

- Company-paid medical and dental
- Vision, short and long-term disability, and life insurance

Location & Travel You will live within 50 miles of, or be willing to relocate to, one of these office locations:
- Hayden/Coeur d'Alene, Idaho
- Lewiston, Idaho
- Meridian/Boise, Idaho
- Spokane, Washington
- Tri-Cities area of Washington (Richland, Kennewick, Pasco)
