Independent field work exchanging water meters in St. Thomas. Paid per meter, with earnings of $45 to $60 an hour.
Meter Technician | Water Meter Exchange Project | St. Thomas, ON
This role may also be known as: Water Meter Installer, Meter Installation Technician, Water Meter Exchange Technician, Utility Field Technician
What if your paycheque was limited only by how hard you wanted to work? On this project, it is. We are hiring five Meter Technicians for a large-scale water meter exchange project in St. Thomas, and every exchange you complete puts money directly in your pocket.
The math is simple. Earn $30.00 for every completed meter exchange using a vehicle provided for you, or $38.00 per exchange if you bring your own white van (Newer than 5 Years). A technician can typically complete about three exchanges in a two-hour window, which puts realistic earnings in the range of $45 to $60 an hour.
You run your own day, work independently in the field, and build a track record on a project that is expected to run through the end of 2027.
Why This Opportunity Is Different
Most field roles cap your earnings at an hourly rate and hand you a rigid schedule. This one rewards output and gives you ownership. You manage your own daily list of appointments, work independently at homes and businesses across St. Thomas, and check in with a Lead Technician or Project Manager only when you need support. Appointment windows run from 8:00 AM into the evening, with Saturday work available for anyone who wants to earn more, so you decide how much you work and how much you make. No vehicle? No problem, one can be provided. With multi-year project stability and true pay-for-performance earnings, this is steady work with real upside.
What You'll Be Doing
Removing existing water meters and installing replacement meters and related components at residential and commercial properties
Completing your assigned appointments on schedule and keeping the project moving
Verifying every new meter is properly installed and functioning before you leave
Spotting and reporting any issue that prevents an exchange from being completed
Being the professional, friendly face residents and property owners trust in their homes and businesses
Explaining the exchange process and answering customers' basic questions
Accurately recording meter information, installation details, and completion data on mobile devices and company software
Following all safety procedures and project requirements, and leaving every work area clean and professional
Flagging access issues or project concerns to the Lead Technician or Project Manager
What We're Looking For
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Legally entitled to work in Canada
Ability to pass a criminal record check, provide a driver's abstract, and complete drug and alcohol testing, including random testing, since this role involves entering customers' homes
Based in or able to reliably commute to St. Thomas, Ontario every day
Comfortable using smartphones, tablets, and digital applications to document your work
Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand tools
Ability to work independently and manage a daily schedule
Strong communication and customer service skills, and a presentable, professional appearance on site
Ability to lift and carry up to approximately 40 lbs and work standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and in confined or restricted spaces, indoors and outdoors in varying weather
Technicians choosing the $38.00 per meter rate must supply their own white van, no older than five years
Previous plumbing, water meter, utility, or mechanical experience is an asset
Previous water meter exchange experience is an asset
Availability to work until 6:00 PM and on Saturdays is an asset
