Reefer Technician
Mississauga, ON | Full-Time, Permanent
Compensation: Up to $36 per hour (based on experience)
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Reefer Technician to join our team in Mississauga. In this role, you will be responsible for the troubleshooting, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of transport refrigeration units on trucks, trailers, and intermodal containers. You will work with a range of equipment brands and systems, applying your mechanical and HVAC expertise to keep temperature-controlled units operating at peak performance.
Work Schedule
- Friday through Sunday, 6:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. (12-hour shifts)
- $2.50/hr shift premium
- Hours topped up to 40 per week
Key Responsibilities - Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair components on truck and trailer transport refrigeration units
- Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled servicing on reefer units
- Operate diagnostic scanners, electronic test equipment, and on-board computers to identify and resolve system faults
- Remove, replace, and test for refrigerant leaks; assemble and install parts and components
- Perform soldering and welding tasks as required during refrigeration repairs
- Review shop orders and work orders; document completed repairs accurately
- Listen to operator complaints, assess reported issues, and communicate findings clearly
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
- Adhere to all safety procedures and environmental regulations related to refrigerant handling
Qualifications & Requirements - Mechanical and/or HVAC background and experience required
- 3–5 years of experience in transport refrigeration required
- Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) Certificate required
- Valid Class G Driver’s Licence required (clean abstract preferred)
- Ownership of personal tools and tool storage required
- Experience with Thermo King and Carrier reefer units required
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
