Business Development Representative - Operational Technology Solutions
Location: Houston, TX | Compensation: $75,000-$95,000 base + 25-35% commission target | Industry: Industrial Automation & Digital Transformation

As a Business Development Representative (BDR) for Operational Technology (OT) Solutions, you'll do more than sell — you'll consult, educate, and help transform how critical infrastructure operates.
This role is built for someone who loves technology and people in equal measure. You'll engage engineers, operators, and automation managers who keep essential systems running — from manufacturing lines to energy grids — and guide them toward safer, smarter, and more efficient solutions.

What you'll do b
uild relationships that matter - Develop authentic connections with engineers, automation managers, and plant operators.
- Support senior BD leaders in mapping key decision-makers across enterprise accounts.
- Nurture relationships through consistent engagement, technical insight, and genuine problem-solving.
Support technical sales excellence - Join technical discovery sessions to uncover how clients' systems (SCADA, control, and network) really work.
- Partner with architects to build custom proposals that deliver measurable ROI — from reduced downtime to compliance gains.
- Participate in demos, pilots, and proof-of-concept (POC) initiatives that bring solutions to life.
Grow the pipeline - Identify and qualify new opportunities through research, referrals, and industry networking.
- Represent the company at conferences, trade shows, and user groups to stay ahead of industry trends.
- Contribute to content-driven marketing — think webinars, case studies, and thought-leadership pieces.
What you bring t
echnical foundation - 3-5 years of experience in industrial automation, SCADA, control systems, or OT.
- Understanding of PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks, and protocols (Modbus, OPC, MQTT).
- Familiarity with one or more major SCADA platforms — Ignition, Wonderware, or iFIX.
Sales & business development skills - 2+ years in technical sales or customer-facing engineering roles.
- Comfortable with complex sales cycles (6-18 months) and multi-stakeholder engagements.
- Experience managing opportunities through a CRM system and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Industry awareness - Exposure to one or more verticals such as Oil & Gas, Utilities, Manufacturing, or Pharma.
- Understanding of industrial challenges and digital transformation trends (IIoT, OT cybersecurity, cloud integration).
What sets you apart - Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Industrial Technology.
- Hands-on experience with Ignition, AVEVA PI System, or enterprise SCADA solutions.
- Knowledge of IT/OT convergence and how data drives modern operations.
- An existing professional network within the Western Canadian industrial community.
The growth journey y
our first 6 months - Complete deep-dive technical training on platforms like Ignition and PI System.
- Shadow senior team members on enterprise projects and client engagements.
- Build relationships with 20+ technical stakeholders and assist in proposals totaling $1M+.
By year 1 - Build a $3-5M qualified sales pipeline.
- Close or influence $1M+ in new business.
- Earn certification on at least one core OT platform and become a go-to technical resource.
Long-term trajectory - Progress into a Senior BD Executive role within 2-3 years.
- Specialize in a technology area or industry vertical.
- Build a professional reputation as a trusted OT advisor in the industrial community.
