Are you looking for a unique teaching opportunity where you can make a genuine difference in the lives of young people while experiencing life in remote Central Australia, just a few hours from a major regional town?
A small remote school is seeking enthusiastic and adaptable teachers for two positions:
- Lower Primary Teacher - Transition (Prep) to Year 3
- Secondary Teacher - Years 7 to 10
The school caters for students from early primary through to secondary years, with small class sizes that allow teachers to build strong relationships and provide individualised learning support. Students have a broad range of learning needs, so the ability to differentiate programs, work at individual learning levels and celebrate small steps of progress will be important. Teachers will also work alongside local educators, incorporating community knowledge, culture and perspectives into learning experiences, including activities on Country.
The secondary position involves working with a small group of adolescent students, with a focus on rebuilding engagement, strengthening relationships and encouraging regular school attendance. Community feedback has highlighted the importance of connecting with and engaging teenage boys, including those who have participated in men's cultural ceremonies and Lore. The school is keen to find someone who can build trust, understand the importance of cultural connections and create meaningful learning opportunities. The secondary role has a generalist focus across core learning areas, with opportunities for practical, project-based learning. The secondary teacher will have the opportunity to take learning beyond the classroom through practical activities and experiences on Country, while helping students develop foundational literacy, numeracy and other essential skills.
Looking to take on a remote adventure? These two positions will share accommodation, making this a great opportunity for teaching duos, friends or colleagues looking to experience remote teaching together. Single teachers who are happy to share accommodation with another staff member are also very welcome to apply!
This is an opportunity to work in a small school where your contribution can have a meaningful and lasting impact. You'll need to be flexible, resilient and committed to building positive relationships with students, families and the wider community.
The community has a range of essential services and facilities, while the surrounding region offers opportunities for camping and exploring the natural environment.
The positions are full-time for 2027, with the possibility of extension. The secondary position would suit primary or secondary teachers.
