A school in Meekatharra is seeking an Early Years teacher ASAP. Set in the heart of the Midwest, the school serves a diverse local population of 700 people (1,000 across the district). With around 140 students enrolled from Kindergarten to Year 12, over 95% identify as Aboriginal.
 
Many students come from the Ngoonooru Wajarri and Yugunga-Nya family groups and students have the unique opportunity to learn the Wajarri language with expert teachers. Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers (AIEOs) play a vital role in supporting the learning community, providing cultural guidance and strengthening connections between the school and the local community. The school places strong emphasis on literacy and numeracy, student well-being, attendance, and early intervention, and is part of the MultiLit - Closing the Gap program supporting strong literacy foundations in the early years. The school holds high expectations for students to become lifelong learners, showing respect for culture, themselves and others, and striving for a strong future.
 
As a Kindergarten teacher, you will bring enthusiasm and a student-centred approach to engagement and achievement. You will be eager to learn and implement trauma-responsive practices and restorative approaches to support student well-being. With a strong understanding of the National Quality Standards and the Early Years Learning Framework, you will integrate data-driven teaching practices with a play-based approach to create a nurturing and high-expectation learning environment. You'll provide differentiated, individualised instruction so students with additional needs get the support they require, and work closely with Aboriginal families to support pride in self and culture, reflecting a genuine commitment to the children in this community.
 
Meekatharra offers plenty to explore and get involved in: local clubs, volunteering, after-work events, and recreational spaces. The town has a hospital, GP clinic, mental health services, pharmacy, and visiting dental, physio, and optometry. Getting involved with local events and groups is a great way to make new connections and settle into your new outback home. Outside of town, enjoy nature trails, gorges, and local camping and prospecting opportunities, or take a day trip to nearby ghost towns, meteor impact sites, and Aboriginal rock art.
 
This is a full-time on-going permanent position commencing ASAP. There are opportunities for partners such as education assistants, cleaners and admin.

• Salary between $88,178 - $127,737.
• Country Teaching Program Allowance of $13,730, paid pro-rata fortnightly.
• Locality allowance of $3,210 a year, paid pro-rata fortnightly.
• Attraction and Retention payment of $7,000 (TBC for 2027)

• Relocation (within WA for more than a term, or interstate for more than 12 months)

What you'll need to succeed!
Registered (or ability to) with TRBWA, a WA Working With Children check, in addition to,

• Bachelor of Education degree with early years qualification (or equivalent).
• Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of the curriculum, with the ability to adapt and align teaching methods to effectively meet school programs.
• Ability to foster connections in an intercultural environment, facilitating strong collaboration and communication, to achieve optimal educational outcomes.
• Excellent communicator with students, colleagues and families.
• Ability to plan, prepare, deliver and assess teaching and learning programs to meet the diverse characteristics, needs and learning styles of students.
• A collaborative team player, adept at working alongside school staff and engaging with the broader community while demonstrating respect and support.
• Proficiency in implementing appropriate behaviour management strategies to foster and maintain a supportive and conducive learning environment.
• Possess a high level of interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with staff members and implement whole school approaches within the school's business and operational plans.
