In a coastal community approximately 420 km from Darwin, this role offers the opportunity to lead the Secondary Boys' class through hands-on, practical learning while also supporting the school's Learning on Country program.
Teaching takes place on the land of the Kardu Diminin people, where Murrinh-patha and English are taught at the school. The role involves delivering, assessing, and reporting against the Australian Curriculum. The school values love, faith, peace, hope, compassion and forgiveness, celebrating Catholic faith and Aboriginal Spirituality. Colleagues work together to create engaging lessons, foster a positive classroom culture, and contribute to a community where every student feels supported and included. With around 470 students and 120 staff—70 of whom are Indigenous—you'll join a school with a strong community. Secure accommodation is provided.
As the Year 10-12 Boys Teacher, you will support students through a range of meaningful learning experiences both in and out of the classroom. The school has an official Learning on Country program supported by the Rangers and Traditional Owners, giving students hands-on opportunities to connect with culture and Country. You'll also work with students in the Trade Training Centre, where they develop practical skills in woodwork and metalwork. Alongside academic learning, students take part in a variety of activities, including the bike program, Colour Run, Swimming and Athletics Carnivals, and TriMob (a triathlon program). In recent years, the senior boys and girls have also travelled to Adelaide to compete in the Power Cup, a major football carnival that brings together schools from across the region.
Implementing a culturally responsive curriculum involves working with Indigenous Teachers, Assistant Teachers and community members in teaching, learning, assessment, and reporting. Teamwork is key. Team teaching focuses on collaboratively planning, teaching, and learning to enhance student outcomes.
As the largest Aboriginal remote community in Australia, the community has a range of services including an art centre, a childcare centre, police, clinic, and local government services, a store and an airstrip.
This is a full-time position starting 2026. There is also a Year 3-6 and PE or Art teaching position available. There are opportunities for partners in the school and community, depending on skills. Primary and secondary teachers are welcome to apply!
