Situated in a coastal community approximately 420 km from Darwin, you have the opportunity to be a part of a teaching team and learn about Aboriginal Culture.
As the Primary Art Teacher, you will design and deliver engaging, hands-on art lessons for primary students across a range of visual art forms. You'll incorporate local culture and context into your teaching where appropriate, helping students express their identity through creative work. You'll manage art resources, create vibrant displays of student learning, and contribute to whole-school projects, cultural activities, and community events. This role suits someone who is adaptable, collaborative, and eager to bring creativity to a unique NT school setting.
Teaching takes place on the land of the Kardu Diminin people, where Murrinh-patha and English are taught at the school. The role involves delivering, assessing, and reporting against the Australian Curriculum. The school values love, faith, peace, hope, compassion and forgiveness, celebrating Catholic faith and Aboriginal Spirituality. Colleagues work together to create engaging lessons, foster a positive classroom culture, and contribute to a community where every student feels supported and included. With around 470 students and 120 staff—70 of whom are Indigenous—you'll join a school with a strong community. Secure accommodation is provided.
Implementing a culturally responsive curriculum involves working with Indigenous Teachers, Assistant Teachers and community members in teaching, learning, assessment, and reporting. Teamwork is key. Team teaching focuses on collaboratively planning, teaching, and learning to enhance student outcomes.
As the largest Aboriginal remote community in Australia, the community has a range of services including an art centre, a childcare centre, police, clinic, and local government services, a store and an airstrip.
