Join an innovative system of residential schools that are on country across the remote north of Australia. in partnership with the Indigenous Education and Research Centre (IERC), this initiative is co-led and co-designed in with local communities to foster Indigenous success with a strong focus on local culture and language. Situated on Bunuba Country, approximately an hour from Fitzroy Crossing, the school is committed to empowering Indigenous students to create a future filled with pride, belonging, and achievement. The school is a place of practical, hands-on learning with a holistic learning framework.
 
The Nurse is responsible for delivering high-quality primary nursing care and managing associated health administration across the campus, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all students. Reporting directly to the principal, the role provides first aid and initial clinical care, coordinates referrals and transfers to external medical services, and maintains accurate and confidential medical records and health plans. Key responsibilities include managing medical supplies and equipment, ensuring compliance with health protocols such as anaphylaxis, asthma, and medication administration, and coordinating immunisation and health-screening programs with local providers. The Nurse also supports school events and camps with appropriate medical planning, completes OH&S incident documentation, delivers staff training in first aid and emergency response procedures, and assists with audits and compliance reporting to uphold a safe and well-prepared school environment.
 
Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality first aid and initial clinical care to students in accordance with current guidelines and school protocols
• Coordinate the safe transfer of students to the local clinic or hospital, including communication with caregivers and external health providers where appropriate
• Manage the procurement, stock control, and replenishment of all medical supplies, including first aid kits and the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) emergency kit
• Ensure accurate and up-to-date medical records are maintained for all students ,including health plans, allergies, medications, immunisations, and consent forms
• Oversee the implementation and compliance of school health-related policies and procedures, including those related to first aid, anaphylaxis, asthma, and medication administration
• Maintain the student medical database with confidentiality and accuracy, ensuring timely updates and regular audits
• Monitor and service medical equipment according to manufacturer guidelines, maintaining a current register of equipment and service schedules
• Complete all necessary occupational health and safety (OH&S) documentation for injuries or incidents involving students, staff, or visitors who attend the health office
• Maintain an up-to-date inventory and mapped locations of all school medical equipment and supplies across campus and residences
• Coordinate student health screening and immunisation programs in collaboration with local health authorities and relevant organisations
• Provide medical support for school events, including on- and off-campus activities such as excursions, cultural camps, and sporting events
• Ensure all excursions and camps are properly prepared, including verifying the adequacy of First Aid kits and receiving all relevant student medical information in either printed or digital format
• Deliver internal health training sessions and refresher briefings to staff on topics such as First Aid, Anaphylaxis, and Asthma management in line with school and jurisdictional requirements
• Assist with audits and compliance reporting as required by regulatory authorities or school governance processes

 
This position is full-time beginning as soon as possible or 2026. There are also teaching positions available for 2026, with a strong possibility of extending - both primary and secondary teachers are encouraged to apply. Requirements
You will be required to obtain a National Police Check and a WA Working With Children check in addition to,

• Enrolled Nurse with current registration under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
• Holistic Health Support: Ability to provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed healthcare that supports the physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing of adolescent students living away from home.
• Cultural Competence and Sensitivity: Demonstrated respect for and understanding of Aboriginal culture, and the ability to work in partnership with local communities, Elders, and families in a culturally safe and inclusive manner.
• Strong Clinical Judgment and Independence: Confident in making sound clinical decisions and responding to medical situations with limited immediate access to external health services, while following appropriate protocols.
• Student-Centred Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage, listen to, and support young people sensitively and confidentially; communicates clearly with staff, students, families, and health professionals.
• Collaboration and Teamwork: Works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team including educators, wellbeing staff, and external health services to support student care and case management.
• Organisation and Record-Keeping: Strong time management and organisational skills with a commitment to accurate documentation, medication management, and the use of digital tools and systems.
• Crisis Response and Risk Management: Ability to remain calm and provide appropriate support during emergencies or critical incidents, including conducting risk assessments and implementing care plans.
• Commitment to Student Wellbeing and Development: A genuine interest in working with adolescents, with the capacity to build trust, foster resilience, and contribute to a safe and supportive school environment.
• Current unrestricted driver's licence
