Join an innovative system of residential schools that are on country across the remote north of Australia. In partnership with the Indigenous Education and Research Centre (IERC), this initiative is co-led and co-designed with local communities to foster Indigenous success with a strong focus on local culture and language. Situated on Bunuba Country, approximately an hour from Fitzroy Crossing, the school is committed to empowering Indigenous students to create a future filled with pride, belonging, and achievement. The school is a place of practical, hands-on learning with a holistic learning framework.
As the School Facilities and Maintenance Officer, you play a vital role in ensuring that all school facilities, buildings, and grounds are safe, clean, functional, and well-maintained. Reporting to the Facilities Manager, your work supports the smooth operation of the entire campus and contributes directly to creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for students to live and learn. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a residential education setting while developing hands-on skills across multiple trades in a dynamic remote environment. As the go-to person for a wide range of operational needs, you will gain valuable experience in preventative maintenance, project coordination, and creative problem-solving. This position is full-time, beginning as soon as possible or 2026. There are also teaching positions available for 2026, with a strong possibility of extending - both primary and secondary teachers are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities
- Multi-Trade Maintenance: Carrying out general maintenance and repair tasks, including plumbing, basic electrical, carpentry, painting, and other trade-related duties.
- Inspections: Conducting regular inspections of buildings, grounds, and equipment to identify and resolve potential issues proactively.
- Record Keeping: Maintaining detailed and up-to-date records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and service schedules.
- Safety & Compliance: Supporting all health, safety, and compliance initiatives by reporting hazards, completing risk assessments, and adhering to WHS regulations.
- Community Collaboration: Working effectively and respectfully with Indigenous staff, students, and community members to ensure facilities are culturally appropriate and safe.
Benefits The school will provide the following benefits:
- Salary $80,000 - $95,000 per annum, plus super
- Tool allowance
- Fully subsidised housing

Unfortunately, the school is not able to accomodate pets.

- Cultural Competency training with Stronger Smarter Institute (one term+ contracts).
- First aid certification (6 month+ contracts).

Requirements You will be required to obtain a National Police Check and a WA Working With Children check in addition to,
- Proven Trade Skills: Demonstrated "jack-of-all-trades" experience in maintenance across multiple trades (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, basic electrical, painting).
- Experience Requirements: A minimum of 3-4 years of maintenance and facilities management experience across multiple trades is required.
- Strong WHS Knowledge: A solid understanding of workplace health and safety regulations, with the ability to identify hazards and complete risk assessments.
- Strong Interpersonal Skills: The ability to build respectful relationships and communicate effectively in a cross-cultural, community-focused setting.
- Unrestricted Australian Driver's License
Desirable
- Certificate III or IV in Building and Construction, Trades, Facilities Management, or a related field.
- Safety tickets such as Working at Heights or Confined Space.
- Prior experience working in a remote or Indigenous community context.
