A strong Indigenous led school in the Pilbara, WA is inviting passionate teachers to educate, learn and immerse themselves in the language and culture of their school community for 2026. Located on traditional Martu lands, this school and community can provide a unique and amazing experience to an adaptable, resourceful and knowledgeable teacher. Using Martu Country as part of the classroom, the school provides learning environments for the students to learn both-ways. The school curriculum, Nintikujarra Marululpi is currently in development with Martu people to include special, sacred, relevant learning for their children. Regular trips to various locations on Martu Country will provide you with the opportunity to observe, connect, learn and draw inspiration for collaborating with Martu educators and teaching the Western learning content. Learning delivered in these outdoor learning spaces support high expectation relationships with students and Martu educators.
Located in the Pilbara, the school has 2 campuses located in the Western Desert approximately 6 and 8 hours from Port Hedland. With approximately 50 students at the larger campus and 15 at the smaller, the classes usually has approximately 4 - 10 students. You would teach across the school in both campuses to provide release to teachers across K to secondary. The school is overseen by the Martu community with a Martu leadership body that, in addition to involvement of families, includes a school board of directors. You will enter a school driven by the community, for the community.
The school would like to welcome a full-time teacher for 2026, with a strong possibility of extension. There is also an opportunity to begin Term 4 2025. There is also a position for secondary teacher. Shorter term roles will be considered for a teacher who is the right fit. There is also a secondary position available. There are positions for partners such as maintenance, gardening, cooking and administration.

Benefits The school will provide the following benefits:
- Salary between $81,269 - $126,423
- Remote location annual allowance of $10,758.58 (paid fortnightly)

- Flights with standard baggage allowance from nearest capital city (or Auckland) to Port Hedland at start and end of contract. All road travel and accommodation between Port Hedland and community provided for relocation. Annual Flights from your capital in state of origin. (DOE Travel claim)

Requirements Registered (or ability to) with TRBWA, a WA Working With Children check and a current drivers licence, in addition to,
- Bachelor degree in education, or equivalent.
- Ability to work within the WA Curriculum
- Ability to build strong cross-cultural partnerships with Martu staff through strong collaboration and communication
- Ability to develop strong cross-cultural competency in order to understand key cultural values that need to be taken into consideration in all decision-making, consultation and implementation of programs and initiatives
- Commit to working within the Two-Way Martu Learning Program and School Strategic Plan as developed and directed by Martu people.
- Teach in various locations on Martu Country
- Ability to collaboratively plan, prepare and deliver teaching and learning programs to meet the diverse characteristics, needs and learning styles of students; which are consistent with relevant school curriculum
- Commitment to planning and applying appropriate student engagement strategies that fit with the direction from Martu leadership, that contribute to establishing and maintaining a supportive learning environment
- Knowledge of, and the ability to implement effective and inclusive teaching and learning processes, including the use of learning technology and assessment
- Good administrative skills, with a high level of flexibility and adaptability
- Ability to work as a team with school staff, other local agencies and the broader community whilst respecting and supporting others
- Ability to develop and differentiate experiences on the students' strengths to enable a sense of accomplishment
