A crisis intervention centre located in the Goldfields region, approximately four hours from Kalgoorlie, is seeking a Counsellor and Wellbeing Support Worker in a remote Aboriginal community. This unique role offers the opportunity to work within a Not-For-Profit providing therapeutic counselling and emotional support to women and their families affected by domestic, family, and sexual violence.
Working within a team of 4, your primary focus will be to enhance personal safety and support recovery from trauma through tailored counselling and therapeutic interventions. You will address the psychological impacts of trauma while promoting emotional and physical wellbeing. Using a holistic, family-centred approach, you will support not only individuals but also children and other family members affected by violence. Additionally, you will work to strengthen psychosocial capacity for those experiencing or at risk of domestic and family violence, helping them reconnect with their community, build on personal strengths, foster healthy relationships, and maintain long-term wellbeing.
Laverton offers essential community services including a supermarket, childcare centre, community resource centre, community café, health and emergency services, a K–12 school, sports and youth clubs, a swim and fitness centre, and an airstrip.
Responsibilities
- Deliver trauma-informed counselling services to women and families experiencing or at risk of domestic, family, and sexual violence (DFSV)
- Facilitate individual and group therapeutic sessions aimed at early intervention, recovery, and education on protective behaviours, especially with a focus on supporting pre-adolescent children and youth in community settings
- Establish, foster, and maintain strong working links with relevant service providers to develop and maintain effective services and referral pathways to families at risk of DFSV
- Apply evidence-based therapeutic models (e.g., CBT, ACT, narrative therapy) to support emotional regulation, healing, and resilience building in individuals affected by DFSV
- Contribute to a workplace culture that supports good practice, teamwork, learning, One Tree’s Code of Ethics, and quality service
This is a full-time fixed position starting ASAP until December 2026.

What You Need to Succeed! - Valid WA Working with Children Check and satisfactory National Police Clearance.
- Relevant certificate or diploma in social work, counselling, children or community services.
- Ability to provide therapeutic counselling and emotional support to women and families affected by domestic, family, and sexual violence.
- Ability to deliver tailored counselling and therapeutic interventions aimed at improving personal safety and supporting trauma recovery.
- Strong understanding of the psychological effects of trauma and strategies to promote emotional and physical wellbeing.
- Experience adopting a holistic, family-centred approach that supports individuals, children, and other family members impacted by violence.
- Skills in strengthening psychosocial capacity in clients, including helping them reconnect with their community, build personal strengths, and foster healthy relationships.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work sensitively and effectively with vulnerable populations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of domestic, family, and sexual violence issues, including risk assessment and safety planning.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, ethical standards, and cultural sensitivity in all client interactions.
- Current Driver’s Licence
