Are you a passionate primary or secondary teacher who would love the opportunity to teach and learn in a bilingual school? Do you value strong community connections and immersive learning experiences? Are you skilled at building meaningful relationships with students and families?
A small, community-focused school located approximately 4 hours from Alice Springs is seeking two dedicated and adaptable lower secondary teachers. The school has around 100 students, with class sizes of approximately 10 students from early years to senior. With small class sizes, educators have the opportunity to form strong relationships with students and make a lasting impact on their educational journey. The community is home to the Warlpiri people, who have a deep connection to their land, language, and traditions. As a designated bilingual school, the curriculum blends Warlpiri language and traditions with standard NT education programs. The school also runs an On-Country program, which has strong community support and includes cultural activities such as damper making and fire-based communication. Each class is supported by local teacher assistants, fostering deep engagement between students, teachers, and the community. You will use Read Write Inc. (RWI) and be supported by dedicated literacy and numeracy lead teachers. The school prioritises student well-being through trauma-informed teaching practices and has a full-time school counsellor. A linguist works regularly with the school to further support bilingual learning. They are currently building capacity for the community to lead the direction of the school.
Living and working in this community is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in a rich cultural environment while making a meaningful impact on students' lives. While it comes with challenges, it can be an incredibly rewarding experience as it offers a chance to teach, explore, and learn while fostering meaningful connections with your students, school, and community.
The community has a community store, remote health clinic, council services, community centre and airstrip.
