Located approximately 350 km southwest of Darwin, a remote Northern Territory school is seeking a passionate and adaptable Year 2/3 teacher to join their team. This is a unique opportunity to live and teach in a culturally rich Aboriginal community in the Top End on Malak Malak Country.
The school supports around 150 students across Families as First Teachers (FAFT), preschool, primary and secondary. As the Year 2/3 teacher, you'll be working with a class of approximately 15 students, delivering engaging, literacy and numeracy-rich learning experiences, among other subjects. The school uses the NT EAL/D Learning Progressions to support English language development and integrates Read Write Inc. (RWI) as part of its literacy framework. A Learning Through Doing approach is embraced for mathematics, promoting hands-on, real-world learning.
With approximately 450 residents, the community is home to the Ngan’gikurunggurr people and is part of the West Daly Region. Deeply connected to country, culture and language, the community offers a chance to engage meaningfully with local traditions and develop strong relationships with families and Elders. Though accessible by road during the dry season, it relies on airstrip access year-round, especially during the wet season when flooding cuts off road travel. Beyond the classroom, there’s plenty to explore. The area is surrounded by floodplains, creeks, and bushland, ideal for fishing, bushwalking, and immersing yourself in the Top End landscape.
Essential services in the community include a health clinic with visiting medical staff, a well-stocked community store, recreational facilities, and council support. Life here may bring its challenges, but also personal and professional growth – and a chance to truly make a difference.
