Located 130 kilometres from Darwin, or a short 15 minute ferry ride, this remote school is more than just a place of learning - it’s a vibrant centre where culture, education, and community come together. As the Year 3 – Year 7 teacher, you will teach in a school that supports around 55 students across Families as First Teachers (FAFT), preschool, primary, and a small secondary cohort. The community is home to seven distinct language groups, with three main languages spoken daily, reflecting a deep and diverse Aboriginal culture. At the heart of the school are six local educators, some have taught for decades, proudly seeing generations of families come through their classrooms, while others bring new energy and fresh perspectives to the team.

With approximately 15 students in the class, the school uses the NT EAL/D Learning Progressions to plan, monitor and assess student progress in English. The school integrates the explicit, systematic [phonics program Promoting Literacy Development (PLD) as part of its literacy program and is trialling the Learning Through Doing approach to enhance the delivery of mathematics. The community offers essential services including a community health centre, which provides basic healthcare and access to visiting specialists. The Council offers community services like aged care, vehicle repairs, and general maintenance. Local amenities include the Store, which provides food, takeaway meals, and 24-hour fuel. Emergency services are provided by St John Ambulance NT. There is also an airstrip.Living close to Darwin, you will experience a unique blend of vibrant culture, outdoor adventure, and a relaxed lifestyle. As the capital of the Northern Territory, Darwin is known for its tropical climate, stunning waterfront, and diverse multicultural community. Fully subsidised accommodation in the small coastal community of Wagait Beach with a pool. There is shorter term accommodation available in Darwin for placements up to a term.
Responsibilities include,
- Planning, preparing and explicitly delivering quality and effective teaching and learning programs, which are consistent with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and relevant curriculum policies, work programs and educational trends.
- Supporting students through interaction in a variety of settings and through the active development of supportive learning environments and effective behaviour management practices.
- Providing for the physical, social, cultural and emotional well-being and safety of students whilst at school.
- Regularly assessing students (diagnostic, formative and summative) for developmental, feedback and reporting purposes.
- Maintaining student records and samples of work and report on student performance to students, parents, the department and other stakeholders as required.
- Establishing and maintaining appropriate interpersonal relationships between the school, parents and community.
The position is full time for the remainder of 2025 or longer. Shorter term placements will be considered from 4 weeks.

- Wages between $92,215 - $131,349 plus super.
- Annual remote allowances of $6,415, paid pro-rata fortnightly with salary. $7,651 with dependents.

Requirements Registered (or ability to) with TRBNT and a NT Working With Children check (ochre card) in addition to,
- Bachelor’s degree in education or equivalent
- Ability to collaboratively plan, prepare and deliver teaching and learning programs to meet the diverse characteristics, needs and learning styles of students; which are consistent with relevant curriculum policies, work programs and education trends.
- Knowledge of and the ability to implement effective and inclusive teaching and learning processes, including the use of learning technology and assessment.
- Ability to differentiate for a variety of needs.
- Ability to communicate and relate effectively with students, staff and families through appropriate interpersonal skills.
- Ability to plan and apply appropriate behaviour management strategies that contribute to establishing and maintaining a supportive learning environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with school staff, parents and members of the local school community in order to establish and develop productive partnerships, in an intercultural environment to achieve optimal educational outcomes.
- Commitment to maintain current and relevant professional learning and meet Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills.
- Ability to build relationships and listen to the needs of the students, school and community.
