A childcare centre located in Derby, on the stunning Kimberley coast, is seeking a passionate Early Childhood Director to lead their team. This is a unique opportunity to develop your leadership skills in a remote setting while deepening your understanding of Indigenous culture.
As the Director, you will be responsible for leading, inspiring, and mentoring a team of educators to ensure the delivery of high-quality early childhood education. You will oversee the daily operations of the centre, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for children and their families. The centre features a nursery, toddler, and kindy room. Strong community engagement is a key aspect of this role, with the centre actively participating in local events.
Derby, with a population of over 3,000, is a culturally rich and vibrant town where Aboriginal heritage plays a central role in the community. Although the community does have some challenges, living in Derby offers a unique lifestyle, particularly for those who appreciate nature, adventure, and a sense of community. The region boasts breathtaking landscapes, including the Buccaneer Archipelago, Horizontal Falls, and the famous Gibb River Road. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy world-class fishing, mud crabbing, and boating, while the town’s high tidal variations create stunning waterfront views and sunsets. The town is also home to significant cultural events, such as the Mowanjum Festival, which showcases traditional Indigenous art and performances, and the Boab Festival, a fortnight-long celebration featuring community activities like mud football and the Mardi Gras. Despite some of the challenges of remote living, Derby is well-serviced with essential amenities, including a hospital, schools, an airport, a supermarket, and sporting clubs. Additionally, Broome is just a two-hour drive away, offering even more opportunities for travel and leisure.
This is a full-time, permanent position with an immediate start.

- $104,162.10 - $106,304.89 (inclusive of all allowances/loadings), plus super (Above award salary - $50.04 - $51.11 per hour)

What You Need to Succeed! - Diploma in early childhood/ACECQA approved equivalent
- Current National Police Clearance and WA Working With Children Card or ability to obtain
- Minimum of 1 year experience in a managerial role or extensive 2IC experience.
- CPR and First Aid certificates, or willingness to obtain
- Organisational skills including general organising, planning, time management, scheduling, coordinating resources and meeting deadlines
- Interpersonal and communication skills
- Comply with the organisation’s code of ethics, vision (spirit), policies and procedures and to support the organisations culture
- Build successful relationships with staff, families and community
- Achieve excellence at management level in an early education and care setting
- Manage staff including staff performance, recruitment and performance appraisals
- A commitment to continuous improvement and efficiencies in service delivery
- Knowledge of relevant state and commonwealth laws and regulations
