Are you looking for a school with a strong cultural focus that works with the community? Are you eager to join an inclusive team that prioritises staff wellbeing?
Located on Warlpiri land in the Tanami Desert, a vibrant bilingual school is currently seeking a teacher with a linguistic background. Located four hours from Alice Springs, this school is well supported by the local community and has high student engagement. The bilingual program emphasises Two-Way learning, covering both the Australian Curriculum and the Warlpiri theme cycle. Utilising trauma-informed practices and striving towards the Berry Street Educational Model and Restorative Practices, the school offers programs such as RWI, Learning Through Doing Mathematics, and Social Emotional Learning. The school has approximately 30 students attending daily with usually 12 students attending each class.
As a Senior Teacher, you will lead the Bilingual Education program at the school, focusing on implementing a formal bilingual curriculum in Warlpiri and English, aligned with NT policies and the Warlpiri theme cycle. You will work across Transition to Year 7, supporting teachers and assistant teachers in delivering inclusive and culturally responsive programs. Your role involves collaborating with staff, community members, and regional officers to develop curriculum materials and program guidelines, supervising Warlpiri literacy workers in creating resources alongside Elders and linguists, and leading professional development for staff to build effective teaching teams. You will support Warlpiri staff in delivering the language and culture program, participating in regular workshops such as the Warlpiri Triangle and Jinta Jarrimi. Additionally, you will consult with parents and community groups to foster support for the program, work with the principal to establish data-driven targets for evaluating progress in key areas, and develop or enhance your knowledge of Warlpiri to further support the bilingual initiative.
With strong partnerships with local organisations such as PAW media, Newhaven Wildlife Sanctuary Rangers, Bachelor Learning Institute, and World Vision, the school actively promotes On-Country learning and community involvement, integrating cultural elements into its curriculum. Joining a positive, inclusive team, you'll experience a supportive environment focused on staff wellbeing and student success.
