Located on the coast of Arnhem Land, approximately 300kms from Jabiru in Kakadu, a large remote school is excited to welcome a professional learning leader. In this role, you will focus on developing and delivering professional learning opportunities for Aboriginal educators in remote schools. The goal is to create sustainable, system-wide approaches that align with educators' career aspirations and the school’s strategic direction.
This position specifically focuses on training and professional development opportunities for remote Aboriginal Educators and involves traveling to and staying in community on a rotating schedule—two weeks in a remote community and one week working from a site in Darwin. While recognition as a Senior Teacher is not required, you must have the ability and experience to lead and manage professional learning initiatives. This large school services students and families from birth to Year 12, with a Child and Family Centre, VET training centre a Learning on Country and Language and Culture program. With a large and supportive staff team, the school fosters a collaborative and welcoming environment both professionally and socially.
Located approximately 600 kms from Darwin, in the heart of Arnhem Land, the area is a hub of cultural diversity, providing a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in rich traditions, languages, and customs, fostering a deep understanding and appreciation of Indigenous cultures. There are a variety of different ceremonial practices, styles of art and design, music and dance. There are approximately 3500 people in community with 2 supermarkets, a pool, large clinic, arts centre, police station, a lodge, cafes and take away. There are also AFL and basketball competitions, as well as incredible fishing and camping opportunities. Additionally, there are 2 commercial flights available daily to Darwin.
The position is full-time for 2025, with a possibility of extending.
Responsibilities include,
- Responsible for developing a training agenda for Aboriginal educators that considers current workforce capability and develops skills relevant to workforce and schooling needs.
- Work collaboratively with the Registered Training Offices and Department of Education, to deliver a quality workplace readiness and core skills program responsive to the needs of the school’s strategic direction.
- Data collection, understand Assistant Teacher standards, workload trends and program development to achieve an integrated best practice approach to service delivery.
- Develop and maintain effective collaborative internal networks and relationships, including regions, schools, corporate.
- Coordinate the delivery of a quality workplace and training succession program that is responsive to Aboriginal educator needs.
- Oversee delivery of tailored, evidence-based non-accredited professional learning for Aboriginal Educators.
- Co-lead with School Leadership team, a strategic plan that contributes to continuous improvement and sustainability.
- Utilise effective collaborative professional networks and relationships, in particular with senior regional leaders, to ensure Aboriginal Educator professional learning aligns with local and regional needs.

- Salary $144,813 (plus super).
- Free housing on school grounds – small bedroom (donga) with ensuite, with shared kitchen and living areas.
- Travel allowance of approximately $110 a night (approximately $1300 per two-week visit)

What You Need to Succeed! Registered (or ability to) with TRBNT and a NT Working With Children check (Ochre card) in addition to,
- Extensive experience working with cross cultural and/or remote education settings.
- Demonstrated experience in analysing data, developing communication materials, and writing high level internal and external correspondence.
- Highly developed leadership and management skills with proven ability to achieve outcomes.
- Demonstrated application of effective communication skills in a wide range of educational, industry or community environments.
- Highly developed engagement skills including the ability to innovate, manage change and influence outcomes across organisational boundaries with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Extensive experience in implementation and evaluation of evidence-based educator workforce initiatives.
- Current driver’s licence
Desirable:
- Project management experience.
- Experience in Implementing and managing VET and Higher Education programs in complex cross-cultural environments.
