About the role
As Senior Accountant – Payroll & Finance Operations, you’ll report to our Chief Operating Officer and work closely with our vCFO from Deloitte to manage day-to-day finance and payroll activities across TEAM IM in New Zealand and Australia.
This is a hands-on role responsible for accurate month-end close, journals, reconciliations, cashflow forecasting, compliant payrolls, and supporting budgeting and forecasting processes.
You’ll supervise and mentor one direct report (our Accounts Assistant) while building strong relationships across the business and explaining financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing daily finance and accounting operations
- Leading NZ and AU payroll cycles and ensuring compliance
- Delivering monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
- Preparing cashflow forecasts and monitoring liquidity
- Driving continuous improvement in processes and controls
This is a permanent, full-time role with an expected salary between $90- $110k per annum depending on experience
This position is primarily based in our Wellington CBD Offices by Queens Wharf. Working from home for up to 2 days per week is negotiable depending on needs of the business, once you have been fully trained and settled into the role.

Who we are looking for You’ll be an experienced finance professional with strong technical accounting skills and proven NZ payroll expertise. Exposure to Australian payroll and tax obligations is desirable.
You’ll also bring:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in accounting or business
- Experience using Xero and other finance tools
- Strong commercial, financial, and analytical acumen
- Experience in financial analysis, statutory reporting, and budgeting
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to coach and supervise a junior team member
- Ideally CPA or CA qualified (not essential)
