Salary: Up to £55,000 dependent on experience

About the Company
Our client is an established Yorkshire-based civil engineering and groundworks contractor with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality construction and infrastructure projects across the region.
With a growing workload and a number of projects currently underway, they are looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor with a background in civils, groundworks or construction to join an established contractor and play an important role in the commercial management and successful delivery of projects across Yorkshire.
The Role
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the commercial management of projects from pre-construction through to final account, working closely with the operational and commercial teams to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and profitably.
You will have responsibility for monitoring project costs, managing commercial risks, valuing works and maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
The role will involve working across projects throughout Yorkshire, with the successful candidate expected to have a strong understanding of the commercial requirements associated with civils and groundworks projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing the commercial aspects of civils, groundworks and construction projects.
- Preparing, monitoring and managing project budgets and forecasts.
- Reviewing and agreeing subcontractor and supplier accounts.
- Preparing and submitting applications for payment.
- Reviewing and assessing subcontractor applications and payments.
- Managing variations, compensation events and additional works.
- Identifying commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Preparing and agreeing valuations, variations and final accounts.
- Monitoring project costs against budgets and forecasts.
- Supporting the preparation of cost reports and commercial reports.
- Maintaining accurate records of project costs and financial performance.
- Working closely with Site Managers and Project Managers to ensure commercial performance is maintained.
- Liaising with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and other stakeholders.
- Reviewing contracts, drawings, specifications and other project documentation.
- Assisting with procurement and subcontractor selection where required.
- Ensuring contractual and commercial obligations are understood and managed effectively.
- Supporting the resolution of commercial and contractual issues.
- Ensuring projects are commercially controlled through to completion and final account.
About You The successful candidate will have previous experience working as a
Quantity Surveyor within the construction, civils, civil engineering or groundworks sector.
You will be commercially minded, organised and confident working with both operational and commercial teams. You should be comfortable taking ownership of your projects and dealing directly with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
We would be particularly interested in speaking with Quantity Surveyors who have:
- Previous experience within civils, groundworks, civil engineering or construction.
- A strong understanding of project cost control and commercial management.
- Experience managing subcontractors and supply chain accounts.
- Experience with valuations, variations and final accounts.
- Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail.
- The ability to identify commercial risks and opportunities.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- The ability to work independently while also being part of a wider project team.
- A proactive approach to resolving commercial issues.
- Good knowledge of construction contracts and commercial processes.
Essential Requirements - Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within construction/civils/groundworks.
- Strong understanding of commercial and contractual processes.
- Experience managing project costs, valuations and accounts.
- Good IT and Microsoft Office skills.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Ability to travel to project sites across Yorkshire.
A relevant Quantity Surveying or construction-related qualification would be advantageous, although relevant industry experience will also be considered.
