Estimator – Civil Engineering
Location:  Durham
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience, up to £70,000

We are currently working with an established civil engineering contractor who is looking to appoint an Estimator to join their team in Durham.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Estimator looking to take on responsibility for pricing a variety of tenders, contracts and subcontract packages within the civil engineering sector.

The client would also be open to hearing from experienced Quantity Surveyors who are interested in making the move into an Estimating-focused position. If you have a strong commercial background and experience within civil engineering, this could be an excellent opportunity to develop your career in a different direction.

The Role

As an Estimator, you will be responsible for producing accurate and competitive tenders while working closely with the wider estimating and management teams. You'll need to be commercially aware, highly organised and confident interpreting technical information and building estimates from first principles.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing detailed and accurate estimates for tenders, contracts and subcontract works
• Building estimates from first principles and analysing project requirements
• Preparing subcontractor and specialist work packages
• Identifying potential risks, opportunities and commercial considerations throughout the tender process
• Ensuring estimates are completed and submitted within required timescales
• Presenting completed estimates to senior management for review and settlement
• Keeping the wider estimating team updated on tender progress
• Planning and managing your workload around client deadlines
• Working collaboratively with colleagues and other project stakeholders
• Maintaining a strong focus on health and safety throughout your work
• Taking part in training, development and performance review processes

About You

The successful candidate will have previous experience working within an estimating role, ideally within civil engineering or a related construction environment.

We're looking for someone who has:

• A minimum of 3 years' relevant industry experience
• Experience preparing estimates from first principles
• Strong analytical and numerical skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• Good planning and organisational abilities
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Good time management and the ability to work to deadlines
• A professional and confident telephone manner
• The ability to work effectively as part of a team

Experience using Causeway estimating software would be advantageous, although this is not essential.
